Meditation for Facing Your Narcissistic Ex or Abuser Again

The thought of seeing him again can make your body tighten. Here, you are invited to soften. To breathe. To walk into the interaction with dignity and steadiness, carrying love that he cannot touch. There's a specific kind of dread that shows up in your body before you even see his name on your phone. This meditation meets you there — in the bracing, the tightening — and walks you through to the other side, where you get to stay you.

Welcome, dear one. Welcome to this guided meditation. When you dread having to interact with them again, find a quiet and safe place to settle in, somewhere you are not likely to be disturbed. Set aside this time just for you, and somewhere soft and cozy. Carving out this gift to yourself, this time just for you. Taking a slow, soft breath in, and letting the exhale fall gently out. Letting your shoulders release, your face and jaw soften, your arms and legs loosen, settling a little bit more now, arriving a little more fully in this moment, following the gentle breath in, and a gentle breath out. Here in this meditation, you do not have to prepare for anything in this moment. You don't have to run through scenarios or rehearse your words or brace your body or set yourself up for success. Right now, just arriving, stepping out of the spin, the dread of having to interact with them again. Right now, in this moment, just this your body, your mind, your breath, just this, just this human being having a human experience. You are safe enough to arrive here. You are not alone if you experience dread. Dread is not irrational, it's learned. It's shaped by past experiences where unpredictability was danger, and tone shifts were warning signs. It's shaped by those past experiences. Your body remembers attention, the walking on eggshells, the careful monitoring of every detail, the subtleties just to stay safe or to avoid conflict. So if like many others, your chest tightens or your stomach drops before an interaction. That makes sense. Your body is trying to protect you. And here now, in this moment, your body can also learn something new, not trust for them, but safety within yourself. Bringing awareness to the body, steadying your nervous system, bringing awareness to your chest, the gentle breath moving in and out. With each gentle inhale, draw a warmth inward, a steady grounding, protective warmth. And with each gentle breath out, letting the fear and dread soften by one small degree. A gentle breath in. A gentle breath out. Moving your awareness to your spine, feeling its strength along its full height. Imagine it lengthening gently like a tall tree rooting into the earth. Your spine holds you, your breath steadies you. Your body knows how to ground itself even when something else feels threatening. Now sensing the space around you, the invisible perimeter that is yours. Feel how it strengthens as you breathe. You are not entering that interaction unprotected. You carry your own presence with you. And that is beautiful and courageous and more than enough. Stepping into your own power with these gentle affirmations, letting these truths settle into your breath and your shoulders and your chest and your mind and body. And if these words do not feel true for you, it's okay to simply let them drift by. Noticing how your body feels different now. Your chest a little more open, your breath more even, your presence more grounded. Whatever interaction lies ahead, you are not entering it as the person you once were. You are entering it as someone reclaiming herself, moment by moment, breath by breath. May your breath stay steady. May your boundaries stay clear. May your strength walk beside you. May you meet the moment with calm dignity and leave it with your peace intact. You are grounded, you are sovereign.
