In this episode, Chris shares why he both hates and loves scripts. Not as manipulative sales tactics, but as training tools that help agents communicate with confidence, clarity, and care. Using the analogy of learning guitar scales, he explains how preparation creates the freedom to be fully present in conversations and serve people well when it matters most.

Issue number 23 of the missional agent memo. I hate scripts. Honestly, I really do. I hate when someone is clearly using one on me. You can feel it. It sounds rehearsed, robotic, manipulative, salesy. It's like they're waiting for their turn to talk instead of actually listening. Bleh. But at the same time, I've learned to love scripts, not as a device to use on people, but as a training tool for my clients. Years ago, when I was taking guitar lessons, someone told me, if you can learn the scales, you can play anything. At the time, scales felt boring, repetitive, technical. But over time I realized something important. Nobody gets on stage and performs scales. The scales simply gave musicians the freedom to be in the moment and create something beautiful. But you better bet that any master on the guitar knows his scales. That's why she can simply hear a tune and start playing. I think scripts work the same way. A script is not the goal, it's the tool. Getting people to do what you want is not the goal. Connection is the goal, trust is the goal, helping people is the goal. Scripts simply help you develop the language, confidence, and clarity to step up and serve people well when the moment comes. Because when someone says, we're going to wait until rates come down, or we want someone cheaper, or we're just looking, most agents freeze. Not because they don't care, but because they haven't practiced. So when the real conversation happens, you're free to respond naturally, confidently, and authentically, not like a robot, like a guide, someone who cares enough to prepare. So here's my challenge for you this week. What's the one objection or conversation that keeps coming up? Reply back, send me an email, and I'll share my response. Now ask yourself what's the script you need to practice so you can respond with confidence and care when it happens again? Learn the scales, put in the reps, then go make music. In your corner, Chris.
