Emotions are not problems to escape. In this episode, Justin shares the WAVE method: Witness, Allow, View deeper, and Evolve. A simple night practice for moving through discomfort with awareness, compassion, and peace.
Welcome back to Night Shift with Justin S. King, How to Transform Your Life One Night at a Time. Tonight's episode, we're going to be talking about the WAVE method, which is a simple emotional intelligence tool for slowing down, allowing feelings, listening to the body, and turning discomfort into healing instead of avoidance. The idea I was reminded of today as we're I'm participating in a five-day emotions challenge as part of the emotions coaching that I do. And so I wanted to share this method with you. So first off, an emotion is not good or bad. It is just information mostly. And it can just be seen as a wave moving through your body, asking to be witnessed. When you are aware of this idea, when you feel sadness, you don't necessarily need to say, what do I need to be happy? or why how do I change this mood? But instead, you want to let this emotion move through you like a wave. And the wave method starts with that, which is the W is to witness, witness the emotion slow down, become still, pause, say to yourself that this is what I'm feeling right now. Identify it. The second step in the wave method is to allow. You give the emotion permission to exist without judgment, without trying to push it down, trying to run away from it or change it. You don't have to react to the emotion in any way. You just stop fighting it and you let allow that wave, that emotion to be in your body. The third step of the wave method is to view it deeper. Get curious, where do you feel it in your body? Is it tightness? Is it heat? Is it heavy stomach or clenched jaw? The body often tells the truth about before our mind can explain it. Is it a color? Is it moving? And the fourth step of the wave method is evolve. And that is with compassion, ask yourself, what does this part of me need? What is this motion bringing up within me? What is being asked of me in this moment from this emotion and this feeling in my body? And that's where the shift begins to come in where you are not trying to stuff the emotion down, but you're learning how to write it like a wave and let it fully process. Because when you don't process an motion, it will get stuck inside your body. So tonight, choose one emotion you're feeling. Name it, witness it, allow it, view it deeper, and let it evolve with compassion. That's it for tonight's episode of Night Shift. My name is Justin S. King, and I help entrepreneurs find peace tonight, tomorrow, and for the rest of their lives through sleep optimization, emotion regulation, and discovering their purpose. Good night.
