Reading serves two different purposes in Hal Elrod’s routines. In the Miracle Morning, you read to learn the strategies needed to reach your goals. At night, during the SLUMBERS routine, you choose an easy, low-stress book you have already read—not to learn something new, but to help your mind slow down. Morning reading prepares you to grow. Evening reading prepares you to let go.
Welcome back to Night Shift with Justin S. King, how to transform your life one night at a time. Tonight I am covering the next part of Miracle Morning Routine, the R and Savors. And while most of the previous habits could be translated pretty straightforwardly to an evening routine, the R or the reading is going to play a slightly different role if you're doing it in the evening. So in the morning routine that Hal has is whatever your goal you want to achieve, there's a book that you can read about that and you read it to learn something new that you can apply and put into action. But in the evening, Hal has a reading as part of his evening routine. But the purpose of reading in the evening is different. He says, read something that makes you feel good. And so he deliberately chooses books that he's already read that he likes that give him peace. He mentions loving what is the untethered soul, living untethered and awareness in his book. And he'll read for about 15 minutes, about 45 minutes before bedtime. Something that will put him in a state of peace and gratitude. Like this clear distinction that he has, something easy. For myself, if I'm reading in the evening, I like to read fiction for the same reason as how's reading something good is like you don't want to put yourself into a place where you learn something new and then you start thinking about how you can apply that, and then that puts you back into work mode. So that is how to use reading in the evening as part of your routine. Pick something that makes you feel good. Maybe you've already read it before. And that is it for tonight's episode of Night Shift. My name is Justin S. King, and I help entrepreneurs find peace tonight, tomorrow, or for the rest of their lives through sleep optimization, emotion regulation, and discovering the purpose. Good night.
