What Were We Saying?
114: Marker To A Dead Bookie - Momentum builds. So does the length…and the indulgence
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
Coming off what is now being described - carefully, and without inviting further scrutiny - as the “Episode 13 peak”, WWWS returns still riding a wave of questionable momentum. Nothing has been confirmed to have changed, but the energy is allegedly different.
This week also marks their longest episode yet, a development that suggests confidence, poor time management, or most likely, a slow drift into self-indulgence.
This week features the return of “Say What Now?”, where Big Uke is once again put on the spot to guess the meanings of old-timey slang. The results range from “strangely close” to “legally indefensible,” with language itself taking a few hits along the way.
The WWWS Mailbag is re-opened, with listener submissions handled in real time and with varying levels of comprehension. A dumb news item also finds its way into the mix, settling in like it was always part of the plan.
On top of all this, Big Uke is assigned a movie outside of the segment chaos, continuing his ongoing role as the show’s resident cinematic test subject.
And, as always, closing things out with unwavering commitment and decreasing patience: “3 Things That Can Kick Rocks.” Still petty. Still unnecessary. Still somehow structurally important.
It’s the biggest episode so far. Not necessarily the tightest.
Expectations remain low - but the runtime is not…and the hot streak? It inexplicably continues.
Maybe you can do Zocks Just chatting away on what we say. Hey, hey, hey. To have cats with nothing to say. It's to grow a good time, so it's time away. What a way we say.
SPEAKER_03Okay. I don't think I've ever heard that word before. Oh, God. It's from a Waynes World episode. Oh.
SPEAKER_02When uh Tom Hanks is the roadie for Aerosmith. Testing the mics for Aerosmith. And he goes up to Trump tap. Sibbilance, sibilants, sibilants, tap, tap, tap, sibilants. There we go.
SPEAKER_03Oh my goodness. Alright. Tonight, Mailbag's back, and it uh it is what it is. The second installment of the Smash hit. Say one now! Who's up for a dumb news story? Big Uke is assigned a movie to watch. And of course, the three things that can absolutely kick rocks. Well, let's get to it. We're coming at you from the fifth floor of Blunderworks Studios. I'm uh Tube Zocks. I'm Big Uke. Behind the camera is Edgar the Chairman Lasseter. Still up for debate. I don't believe it. Want to give a shout out to Harold Winthrop and the Silver Astray Orchestra. They, for the last couple weeks, they've been listening to us from an abandoned dog track on the south side. But I did actually catch word from Harold today. Oh snap. Yes, he reached out to me. They are not going to be able to watch this episode because they've gotten themselves a gig. What? Yes. Oh, snap. They are for the next two weeks, they're sitting in for a Chuck E. Cheese band. I love that. From that one that's really not very busy. I think it's what is it, off the old mill road? I think so. And they still, it's one of the last ones that still has the animatronic band. Yeah, well, that makes sense for them. Yeah, no, they're sitting in there, so they gotta actually slide into the well, I would assume they're in the cups. In the robots. Yeah. But they're uh good for them. Yeah, they're sitting in because they've been working on their I don't know what kind of music to play, Chuck E. Cheese, but I can't imagine that it's not. I'm assuming it's it's either gonna be something completely random or just our theme song, Oh, on repeat. That's if that's the case, I'm gonna swing by there. I'd go for lunch. For a really bad pizza pie. And uh warm beer. And a warm beer. You know, I'll never forget the time that I discovered that Chuck E. Cheese sold beer. That was an amazing day. Before you had kids, you just go there for beers and lunch? No, no, this was with the kids and you went to about six or eight birthday parties in with all the stuff until you realized. Oh my. I see it. I see a tap behind the counter. I could have not been. So I went up to the counter and just said, Pardon me.
SPEAKER_02Are we are we allowed to have that? Why, yes, sir.
SPEAKER_03I will have some of that then, please. And then I sat in the other area and just supervised from afar. You know his full name's Charles Entertainment Cheese? And his parents were killed. Like that's in his biography. Really? His he is an orphan who never got birthdays as a kid because his parents died. So he wanted to make it so that other children could have a fun place to party. And he he created It's like Batman. Right? It's like m mm it's Ratman. I I had no idea of that story. I also had no idea that we'd go so deep into Chuck E. Cheese. Hey, lore. I love lore. That's what we were saying. You never know. That's kind of the whole point. Oh my goodness. Right? Fun, right? Wow. Google it. Look it up. Well, what are we uh what are we saying? Uh well, I don't know. Should we talk about Chuck E. Cheese more? I think was that. Oh. I also went on to Steal Harold's Thunder. That's true, that's true. There might be some kids out there listening, they're like No no no, those are real bears and stuff, or whatever they are. I'm just thinking of Five Nights at Freddy's now. I remember going to a place when I was a kid though that it wasn't Chuck E. Cheese, but it was in a place west of Tacoma, south of Vancouver Island. West of the fifth. Yeah, anyways, and it was like Chuck E. Cheese, and they had the animatronic bands. But it was like, anyways, it was kind of weird. Was it for adults? No, but no, no, I was like, Oh, it wasn't one of those types of animatronics. No, I was like, but it wasn't Chuck E. Cheese, it was like a weird off-brand competitor that somehow didn't seem as good. Well, you can't beat Charles. I didn't realize he had that trauma. I mean, it makes sense though. Does it all make sense? He's got that weird look in his eyes. How was your week? Another weekend went past and we didn't hook up, so yeah, weird. Seemingly like we do it every two weeks. So we do it this weekend. We'll been on been on a bit of a tear. I have. No, we have as far as button. I've been at a normal pace, sir. Um yeah, no, it was good. Got a little bit of RR this weekend. North of Red Deer, south of Yukon. Oh, that's a beautiful country this time of year. My goodness. If you're ever in the area, stop in. Stop in, say hi. Tell him. And if you're near the old mill road next week, swing in and see Harold Winthrop in the band. Tell him Tube sucks in. Dressed up like a bunch of rats. They'll give you some tokens. Play skee ball. Yeah, I think the the my only issue with Chuck E. Cheese, I hate to go back to Chuck E. Cheese. Why? But seemingly the theme of episode, what are we, 14 now? They've just devalued the currency so much by instead of giving out 90 tickets, give out three. Then it doesn't take 7,000 tickets to get a pencil. You know what? You make a good point. If that ain't a representation of the world we live in. The buying power of those tickets. Those from Ski Ball or just be in this economy? Anyways. So we didn't run into each other, but you know what? We did uh connect via text messaging. We did a couple times because we were both very pleased with how episode 13 went. I thoroughly enjoyed 13. Have you seen my shirt? Boom! Lucky 13. There we go. After the debacle that was episode 12, we've been riding a high now, and I don't know if we can turn the ship around. Nah, we're just going to the moon, baby. I did have a good time. That was a fun one. I hope you enjoyed it. If you haven't watched it yet, go back. YouTube. All this the podcast places. Go listen to it. You know, like there's a few things as satisfying as the bounce back episode, which now that we've been at this for 13 weeks. Wow. Right? Yeah. Episode 14. You could almost uh Who would have thought we would have got here? Look at us now. You could have almost gestated two gibbons in that time. I forgot one and a half gibbons. I forgot about the gestation period of a gibbon. Good time.
SPEAKER_02I don't know.
SPEAKER_03That was a lot of episodes ago. So much useless knowledge has concealed since then. Where are we starting off? You got a dumb story for us? I do have a dumb story that I came across. I like that. I'd love to share with you people. And you. Yukon Cornelius. Big called worse things. Oh my. Alright, let's hear this. This is a real world story. Because we're real world people. I'm thinking of a song as soon as you said that. I wasn't. Something to do with it. You know what? That makes sense. It brought that back from last week, see? I almost forgot how to do it. I'm never gonna get used to that. You'll never see it coming. What song am I thinking of? Like the Spanish Inquisition, no one expects it. Just a ship across the horizon all of a sudden getting laughed at. What song am I thinking of? Uh no. In my brain. Something to do with the real world. Is it a TV show? Let me think of a theme song. I don't know. I don't know. What's your story? Uh here's the headline. Tesla Carpool from Hell, Cornhole Pro, backseat witnesses, and a murder charge. Oh my god. That seems this is a real calamity on wheels here. Oh, I'm so glad this is the story you picked. Are you familiar? Uh uh snippets. Well, let me I've heard some snippets when this happened. Let me get into this. Dayton Weber, 27, a quadruple amputee, professional cornhole player, cornhole player, and motivational speaker. Well, yeah, he's like doing stuff with no arms and no legs, and he's amputeed like to the nub. Is currently cooling his heels in a Maryland jail with no bail after allegedly turning a car ride into a full-blown crime saga. Authorities say he shot 27-year-old Bradrick Michael Wells twice in the head during a March 22nd argument. Yes, twice. Bap. In the head. I just w I just like there's just I'll be so many questions. Oh, during what was apparently not a calm discussion. I can't imagine it would be to shoot someone twice in the head. He's now facing murder, assault, and firearms charges. His lawyer insists it was self-defense, claiming Weber was terrified. Well, he would have been like not. Well, true. No shaming. No, not to make fun of it. Which is one way to describe a situation the prosecutors say was already a long-running mess. Goodness. Like I have you have more? Oh, geez, I've got a whole other page. Keep it going. A page in a bit. There's so much happening already in this. Because according to them, this wasn't some random blow-up. Oh no. This argument allegedly came with a backstory, a stolen gun, strained relationships, and enough prior drama to qualify as a multi-season series. I mean, we've all been there though. I mean he's going through something like that right now.
unknownAllegedly.
SPEAKER_03There was even an earlier incident where Weber allegedly fired a shot from a second floor window at Wells after telling him to leave his house. So not exactly that first disagreement. Goodness. But wait, it gets weirder. Weirder. Backseat passengers told police. There was passengers! Right? Backseat passengers told police they witnessed the shooting happen in real time. Afterward, Weber pulled over and actually asked them to help remove Wells from the car. Well, he was in the car. I thought he just like drove up on him. No, Wells was in the passenger seat in the front. These people in the back, he well, he What? And he he's got nubs. So, okay, so what is this Dayton? Dayton? What was the shooter? Dayton Weber. Dayton Weber, he's the Cornhole player. He's the professional cornhole player. I've watched him play cornhole before. I can I've never watched Professional Cornhole, but ESPN8 the Ocho. It was a great thing. I've actually we've watched this before in an evening. We spent time watching this. I think it was like Thanksgiving. We were done dinner. Just giving thanks? Just giving thanks to Cornhole. And I've seen him play. He's got no arms, no legs, and he throws a bit a bag like nobody's business. And so he was driving. Is that right? Yes, he was driving. He was driving with shooting. Which one is I would- He seems like he may have been distracted. I would think that counts as distracted driving. I tried texting and driving one time. I mean, I've never tried shooting and driving, though. But shooting seems to be like I can imagine shooting and driving with two arms would be difficult. How about with no arms? Or legs? How are you working the pulleys? Well, I'm assuming you're working the pulleys and levers. I'm fully assuming he's got stuff connected to his nubs that help him operate a motor vehicle. But why is he driving if there's three other able-bodied people in the car? I I'm thinking maybe because it's almost impossible or it's very difficult for his able-bodied person to drive that car because it's been modified for him.
SPEAKER_02Or they just thought it was a really lame car and they didn't want. Hey, can you drive? No, I don't want to. I can't be seen driving this.
SPEAKER_03I'll sit in the back seat and watch you shoot someone. Can you tint the windows up, please? Tint her up. Can I let me get away with the windows? Okay, keep going. Sorry. So, yeah, so he I need to drink for this story.
SPEAKER_02He pulled over and casually asked them to help remove wells from the car.
SPEAKER_03They declined. Uh exited the vehicle, and uh kind of not themselves right out of there. I mean, at least you know that you're not gonna get into a foot race chase with this guy if you get out of the vehicle. So, like you'd think he'd be pretty easy to take down. Yeah, but he also has a gun, though. And I get it's I think What is it in his teeth? So he's like a he's like a duck-sized horse. I don't know. Oh my god. I was already saying that Weber then drove off with Wells still inside. He just left him.
SPEAKER_02And yes, everyone in the car reportedly knew each other, which somehow makes it less confusing and more confusing at the same time. What the hell?
SPEAKER_03Uh Weber later turned up in Virginia because of course he did. Because who's Virginia for? Going back to an earlier episode? Yes. Virginia's for lovers. Yes. That's just a beautiful place. Uh, Proscura's also noted that he owns multiple firearms, which didn't exactly help his case for freedom. Bail? Not even a serious topic of conversation. So looming over this entire bizarre chain of events, like a plot twist nobody asked for, the entire episode may have also been captured on Tesla's cabin cameras. Well, I guess it's a Tesla. There's cameras everywhere in the world. Unless the vehicle was just quietly minding its own business while everything inside spiraled into absolute chaos. That that's one of the most bizarre stories I've heard in a very long time. Like we've had a couple stories now. And I mean camels, monkeys. The camel thing, the monkey thing. No animals in this one, but I think maybe the guy's an animal. Sounds like he's a bit of an animal. There was the turkeys chasing the mailman. I can see that. I've seen that before before that story. I can't say I've seen camel manipulation like that story. But you've seen like other animals be like I'm certainly trying it though. Beautiful. Once I get my first camel. Mine's in the mail. I'm going all in. Did you use my camel guy? Well, he was more well, he said he could get me a llama. He didn't. Ah, you know what? Maybe I'm not in tight with it. I think that's the language barrier. Uh, okay. Because he did the same thing to me, but I corrected him with a picture. I sent him a gif. Perfect. But yeah, that's uh I can understand animals doing stuff. But this guy, so no arms, no legs. Like right there, that story stops. So obviously, either heavy mod or is it self-driving? Is it autonomous mode? Well, yeah, but it has to be. Is that even allowed? I've never driven a Tesla before. And I never will. But hey, well, you never know. No, I know. Um I know. Well I've never had a Big Mac, I'll never drive a Tesla. I can dig in pretty deep here. Okay, okay. I'm not we'll save that for a different light segment. I still think you need to like start the vehicle going. It's like cruise control. It doesn't just like can't just like start it from zero and go. Hey, Siri, go. Yeah. Um I don't know. That story, if you would stop that an armless, legless cornhole professional. That's enough. That's enough of a story. Yet alone he's driving. Holy what a Sega. And he's some sort of sniper. And then he killed a killed man with people in the backseat. He killed a man like what? Like after he got home? No, no. While he was driving. And asked his passengers, can you help me? Can you help me get rid of the body? Because I can't really grab onto him. As I'm I guess I I didn't want to do that. Man, I really hope the interior cabin cameras caught this video. There's gotta be a and they police release this video because I need to see this.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, it's something.
SPEAKER_03It's it's yeah, I knew about this guy. Okay for sure. I came across this story and I thought, luckily we have a show so we can discuss it because this is I 100% knew who this guy was. I uh I had scrolled through I think I was scrolling on one of the social media platforms, and this popped up, and I'm like, nah, I can't be real, like what's going on? So I kind of just dismissed it. And then it came up dismiss at your own peril. Right? It came up in a chat the next day and then. Is it one of your cornhole chats? Yeah, one of our group chats for cornhole. And then it just kind of disappeared. And the conversation wound up in Virginia. It's crazy. That's such a subtle little like like a throw-in addition to that story. He's like, ah yes, he wound up in Virginia. What? I don't know how long a drive it is from wherever he was to Virginia. Did you say where he was when it started? Well maybe I didn't get it in my notes here. California. You drove. He was in Maryland. Maryland. See, I'm assuming I'm I I'm assuming they're close. I mean, they're already south of Toronto, north of Florida. Yeah. So that I mean, to me, that's one area anyway. It's pretty much just, you know, west of Jersey, you're just there. East of Oklahoma. I think. Huh. Wow. That's uh West of the Atlantic. Very east of the Pacific. That's an incredible. Yeah, it really is a tale. I didn't expect any of that. I'm gonna be looking for a follow-up on that because there has to be. Did it say when his court date is? When it's gonna be rained. I didn't uh include that in the details because Ah, privacy. Well, also court dates are kind of to me like uh that kind of details, it's like uh fancy stats in sports, they're just not that interesting. Yeah, but what uh what's his court dates above expected? Perfect. So we'll follow up in a little bit. We're not a sports show, though. Scan the interwebs and see what happened to old uh armless, legless uh shootist, shooty. Anyway. He can do more than just shoot a bag. Jeez. Huh. You know, one of my favorite cartoons back in the early 90s was the father was an armless and legless guy. Cat Dog. The oblongs. Did you watch the oblongs? I know what that is. Really? No idea. First time I've ever heard that word used not to describe an object. Oh my god. That's his oblong. What an amazing cartoon that was. That was before cat dog, which was also great. Can't say I've seen an episode of that either. But the oblongs and the uh the one kid always had foamidar because he only ate soup. It's just really, there was so many premises going on. What? And they had these Siamese twin kids that anyways, it was an amazing time. Oh and they always explained that he had foamidar because he only eats soups and broths. What a sentence. Uh and the dad smoked a pipe, which is amazing because he had no arms. How does he get the pipe out of his mouth? But he always had like a the 1950s. It was like the 1950s family, but bizarro and like radioactively mutated or something. Ah, I know what I'm watching when I get home from the good stuff. Anyways, shall we start? Shall we move on to the mailbag? We need to. We didn't hit the mailbag last week because you know we're letting uh but she was getting full. She was getting full. The bag was filling. Thank you very much. We appreciate all that. You got a disclaimer you gotta read before you uh I do. Before we get into the or there may have been some changes. Plethra of fancy. We don't want to call out changes, but in case there are. Our just our disclaimer made up by our crack legal team. The what were we saying mailbag contains real letters from real viewers and listeners. Some names, details, and punctuation may have been altered for dramatic effect. Personal safety, length, clarity, grammar, excessive hostility, content, readability, emotional stability, and taste. There we go. You gotta do what you gotta do when you're putting on a big production like this. When you got a crew like this, you want to make sure that you're crossing your eyes and dotting your T's. Crossing your T's and dotting our I's gick things off there, youke? I will. Good day. Big Duke and Tube Socks. That's us. That's us. Fun. I made us. Us. I made it through the glitched audio episode. I noticed that there was less acknowledgement of Edgar during it. That's you. Has it been considered there was sour grapes and sabotage at play? Holy shit, I never considered that. I mean I figured he screwed up, but not on purpose. Uh oh. He wa I should have finished reading this first. Oh. Don't tell him, but there's something that seems a little off about him, and I hope I am wrong for your safeties. I wish we'd seen that before we read that aloud. That changes everything. Ooh. I think he knows right now. Love you, Edgar. Well, actually, he's trying to roll a cigarette right now, so crazy he can do it with only nine fingers. Best regards. Chris. Oh. Well done, Chris. Well, Chris, Chris, we appreciate you making it through that episode because it was a doozy. It was uh throw. What's the word I would use when I first listened to that episode? Uh Crestfallen. Real flick in the nuts is what he told me. It was a real flick to the nut sack. Uh, you got a letter? I do have a letter. Dear Triple WS. Hey, that's us. Two hundred and forty three Earth days for one rotation of Venus. Ah. At one point it was said. That's about ten times longer than Earth. But was Big Yuke doing some live on-the-fly math there or reading off Edgar's notes? Just trying to figure out where this factor of ten came from. This guy's going back real fast. That's a deep cut. How long ago did we talk about this? Oh, that's gotta be episode like four? Five? That's deep cut, sir or madam, whom ever you will be. The only way this makes sense is that if you take a 24-hour earth day and multiply it by 10, which gives you 240 hours or 10 earth days. But ten days is nowhere near 243 days. Questioning, this feels important for the integrity of the operation. Anyways, I'm working through the backlog of episodes for reasons I don't even fully understand myself. Maybe pity, maybe curiosity, or maybe I've just lost it. Unsigned. Okay, so he's t he's going back. Sure, I get you're going back. I appreciate that. But sign your damn name, you coward, huh? Unsigned. Grow up. Jesus Christ. Questioning my math. Maybe I was wrong. Good for you. If there's anyone that knows how the universe works, I invented. This is my compadre right here. This is my universe, and you're just living in it. Even though I won't call him my friend yet. Close though. But we're like three steps away. We're like 10 earth days away. Ten earth days. Like 240 Mars days. A factor of ten rotations of the yeah, boom. Whatever. Math. Science. Unsign you, son of a bitch. Unsign you. I don't like you calling out you like that. You know what? No, I do. Bring it on. I don't like it. Bring it on. This is a safe space. Not for him. Don't show up. You know the internet is a safe space. There's no place on the internet for people running down. Nope. Let okay. I don't trust the internet. Huh? Okay, well, you know what? We've uh that's our letters for now. We will get back to a couple more letters. So you who are sitting at home right now going, oh come on, read my letter. You know what? It might still be coming up. Stay tuned. It might still be coming up. We're gonna get to a segment that people really enjoyed when we introduced it. I really enjoyed it. Oh, did we read a liner? Oh, we need a liner for this. I'll read a liner for this before I get into the segment. It's important to let our sponsors know that we care. Our sponsors are this could be you. Just reach out. Shoveling so much money. It's crazy. In this production. These shoes aren't free. New pair every day. God damn it. Wear each one once. Toss them away. Oh yeah, then they're used. Ugh. I don't want to wear used shoes. You do the show and you tell me you keep the same pair of shoes every day. This is a uh returning sponsor from again one of our first episodes. Only pierogies! Almost forgot about them. I'm glad they're still in business considering they only sell pierogies. Well, I see by their liner that they still have some problems. Uh-oh.
SPEAKER_02At Only Pierogies, we believe in doing one thing and doing it with stubborn, almost concerning commitment.
SPEAKER_03Well, it's kind of like us in the show.
SPEAKER_02Pierogies, that's it. It is like us.
SPEAKER_03No killbassa, no sour cream, no chives, no bacon bits, no butter, no distractions, no apologies. Just pierogis in their purest, saddest, loneliest form. Honestly, like I love a pierogi, but it's sad without the uh just accoutre mall. Right? Find us in the food court of the three-door mall. Great mall. Just two stalls down from the loaded pierogi, and they put in brackets, we never talk to them. Yeah. Screw those guys. Right? I bet they like take air out of their tires and shit. Yeah. You they th they say, oh, a pierogi shop, cool. Maybe we can get bulk pricing on toppings and shit. Then they show up and it's like, ugh, toppings gross, go away. Screw you. Alright, well, let's get into this segment because I've been looking forward to it, and I know from some of our uh others have been looking forward to it. What's this segment called, youke? Say one! And this segment, for those who didn't catch it the first time, I've got a list of six old-timey slangs. And Big Yuke tries to excuse me while I scratch my scratch an itch. Yeah, something wrong with it. No, you just ask, I'll do it next time. Something wrong with my core there. It was itchy. You say Attica. Yes. Uh anyways, Big Yuke tries to guess the meaning of said. I think I passed last what did I do? Four for six? You did four for six in the first edition, which is pretty good. So I've upped the difficulty level a bit. Shit. But the first edition we were in 1930s, and I've stuck with the 1930s for this one as well. Your youth. Because, yes, that was back in my stomp, my old stomp agrounds. My old Stompagrounds days. Ooh, I hooked up with a couple more people. Uh I know hooked up with. Good for you. No, like not like not. Do you folks know about this? No, I've uh anyways. The world's your oyster, apparently, when uh shucks. You join that shocking? Shocking oysters? You caught on to what I was doing there. Actually, I might as well finish it. Before I start this up. Before we start, say one now. Edgar almost caught that one. That one almost caught it. I bet if you had a tenth finger, you'd caught it. Alright. Okay, so six 1930 slangs. And I've got sentences for each one if you need them. Right, because I'm trying to guess it without the sentence, and then if I guess with that sentence. Anyways. Okay, so the first one, and and I I think I've I've put these so that it gets a little more difficult as they uh creep up. Because last time creep you aced it too. Well, I went like three for three off the hop. Then the freaking iron and shoelaces stumped me. That was that was oh, iron and shoelace, that was a good one. That's what Edgar does most of it. Okay, number one. In the soup. In the soup. Well, my first initial thought, and I'm gonna stick with that, is like you're in the mix, you're involved. No. Not even close? No. Well, yep. I'd like a sentence, please. Well, you wanna you wanna think about another before I give a sentence? No, because I could just I'm still going like in the mix, in the soup. In the thick of it? No, that's the same thing. That's wrong. In the soup. Is it referring to like a place of employment? Okay, I I'll need a sentence. Alright. If this thing unravels, we'll be in the soup before we even know what hit us. Oh, like trouble. You're in boiling water. You're in hot water. Yeah, yeah. Ah I was there. I was adjacent. Yes. Directionally correct. But not right. But not right. So that's a that's a big ol' X? That's a we'll put that in. Oh for one. We'll put that sound in. Oh, I'm really happy with the sounds in the last one, by the way. I thought they were good. Oh, they're pretty good. Dang. Alright. Number two. Banks closed. Okay, so that oh again, it feels like it should be obvious, but it's not. Or is it? That was the 1930s for you, pal. Hey, banks closed, pal. I just I mean, I obviously am leaning towards something being closed. I wonder what it could be. Darn it. Banks closed. 1930s. If you didn't do so damn well in the first one, I wouldn't have ramped it up. Uh apparently. I'm gonna hold for six now, and then it's gonna get easier next time. It's not gonna refer to sports. No, no, no. Because we're not a sports show. I'm just gonna go with like get out of here. Get out of my face. Damn it. You can sweet talk all you want, pal. Banks closed. I'm done helping you. Ah. See, that's the problem. Banks don't help people. Don't give me your sob story, pal. Banks closed. I ain't helping you anymore. It just makes so much sense. What's it means? Right? Funny how that works. God, living in the 1930s. I guess you've got to be. Well, you you did. It was the time, I tell you. Number three. Didn't these all come from your old scribbler? From my old duo tanks. Number three, trip for biscuits. And now we wait. Trip for biscuits. That's a weird one, hey. I know it's gonna piss you off because as soon as you hear this sentence, you'll know immediately what it means. But what the hell does trip for biscuits mean? Trip for biscuits. And how do you work it into your everyday life in 2026? Right? I initially think it doesn't mean like it means like it's meaning like I'm going somewhere for something. Like I'm going on a trip. Am I like am I going for something good? Like we're going to oh yeah, we're going on a trip for biscuits. Like we're gonna go get the goods. Not really. Oh, okay, but I I I feel good that it wasn't just a straight up you want a sentence. I think you've you're you're kind of picking up on something, but uh what's the pick? Am I up on trip or biscuits? You're not going up, you're not actually going on a trip. Oh, so it's not going on a trip. Is it just mean fall down? No. Oh, trip for biscuits. See now that you've said I'm not actually going on a trip. Yeah, I think it's not a vacation-oriented uh No, I I figured it wasn't vacation. It's like we're going to do, you know, we gotta go do something, you know. Gotta wrangle up the fellas and we're going down to old Jimmy's from going on a trip for biscuits, eh? Like that's where I'm You're kind of along the on the. Like we're gonna go get our comeuppance with someone. We're gonna go beat them up. You're on the al on the right street but in the wrong lane. Gah, that's a dangerous place to be. Because you you know you're doing the right thing, but just wrong. Your context is perfect. But it's the specifics of what biscuits is that tripping up on. Yeah. Does it does it mean drugs? Ah, wow, give me a sentence. The whole scheme smelled like a trip for biscuits from the start, but nobody had the guts to say it out loud. Oh, it's just a bad idea, a bad plan. Like, a waste of time. A fool's errand. What are we even doing here? Why are we doing this? Right? You were in the light, you were in- I was I was getting there. I was in the roundabout, I couldn't get out. That's a another, that's a great phrase, trip for biscuits. Trip for biscuits. This is a fool's errand. I think this show is a trip for biscuits. Hey! Well! Alright. Damn it. Number four? See if you can prove this because you're 0 for 3 of them. Yeah, now they're getting harder. I'm putting it in in the house's favor here. Oh, big time. What a dink. Right? Alright. Ugh. Watch my go three for three for these. Number four. Butter and egg man. Butter and egg man or butter and egg man? Butter and eggman. It's how you would refer to a person. He's a butter and eggman. He's a butter and egg man. Well, it'd be like it's like necessary. Like we need him. He's our butter and eggman. He's just, we gotta have him. Was that a burp or a no? No, that was a no. That was a deep no. Excuse me, I've only been drinking since 11 a.m. Oh. Dang it. You would call someone a butter and eggman? Yes, you would. You would refer to someone as a butter and egg man. Is it derogatory and insulting? It is derogatory, and uh our friend Fergie probably absolutely is screaming at his television. Oh, he knows what you're screaming at his television set right now. Yeah, he was 27 then. So he was too old to fight in the first world war. Plus the bone spurs. That'll get a guy. Damn bone spurs. A butter and egg man. I just is it ah, God, it's just I know you don't want to throw in the towel. I I I need a I need a sentence. I don't think it's gonna help me though. He blew into town like a butter and egg man, silk suit, fat wallet, and just enough ego to make him dangerous to himself. Is it just like a cocky prick? Kinda? I'll go you know what? I'll give I'll give you a half on that. Woo! Not shut out. It's basically basically yes, it is a fat cat, cocky prick. But he's not. Someone trying to buy status attention or romance, a naive rich guy who has more money than cents. So the guy blows over town, so he's like, he's like dollar bills, y'all, and he's gonna He's a guy who shows up at the bar, buys a round of shots, but nobody talks to him after. And he's gonna get a thousand dollar suit. He's gonna lose his wad that night because everyone sees he's got a stack. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. So butter and egg man. So he's he's he's pompous, but he's not a dick. He's like an easy mark oh too for the like the dames at the bar, right? Yeah. Oh, this guy's he's rich. He's throwing it around all night because he's trying to get in. I'll flirt with him and they'll buy me drinks and then I'll and then you know what I'll do? When we step outside, he'll get that little thing over the head that those guys had. And uh they'll take his uh little bonkin? Yeah, dang it! I'll take a half a point. They'll give you half a point on that. I'll shut out. My record of not being shut out stays intact. Hey, this is one that I think everyone, everyone, everyone here listening and watching should incorporate this into their common parlance. Oh, this could go a lot of ways. On wheels. On wheels. Okay, so but it's something that we could use today. Absolutely. On wheels. I love this, and I'm gonna I'm gonna bring it back personally. I'm gonna bring it back. With no context, it's kind of tough. Very difficult, no context, because on the 1930s, yeah, you know, parlance. It could mean anything. It just feels like on the move. But it doesn't mean anything. It means something very specific. I'm sure it does. And it's something that we do every day, or sometimes every other day. Definitely every day if you drive a combine. Oh, see, and that should help me, and I know it does, but right now I'm blanking. If you're that gentleman who uh I'll give I'll give you a hint. It's related to uh restaurants. Going for a meal? As soon as you hear the sentence, you'll know, and you'll lose. Drinking energy drinks excessively? If you know, you know. It has to do with restaurants and combines. Well, it doesn't really have to do with combines.
SPEAKER_02No, it has to do with a specific person that we know.
SPEAKER_03Uh-huh. Whenever you're ready to throw in the towel with a sentence, I'll give it to you. Oh. Because you'll love it, you'll want to. Does it mean like like just like you're in and out quick? Like you you're you do you you don't pay? No. No. You come in and you don't stay around for the dessert menu? God, I again. You're in the directionally, I'm on the right street. You're directionally on the right street. I'm in the traffic circle. You're in the wrong damn lane. But I'm going counterclockwise. And someone we know. Keep in mind we need to uh you know keep a schedule on. Yeah, you know what? Just give me the sentence. We got a show to do. Put those sandwiches on wheels, dollface. I ain't got time to hang around. Oh, so it's just getting food to go. Getting it to go? God dang it! Isn't that great? On wheels. That is good. That's good. You order your lunch and then she comes to top of your coffee and doesn't. You know what, Dollface, put those sandwiches on wheels. Maybe the dollface thing? Put those sandwiches on wheels. I gotta blow. Put them on wheels. I got them on wheels. I love that so much. Oh damn. I'm absolutely gonna start using that, and people are gonna think I'm fucked. Well, they're gonna think you're talking about another guy we know. Oh my god. Alright, last one. My god. I don't think you're uh looking. I'm going one and a half for six here. Bone polisher. Again, same same era, same gangster, same. It just feels dirty. But it's not. Or is it? It's not I'll give you that. It's not. Bone polisher. Is it gonna be it's something to do? Is it like a corner or like something to do with killing people? Okay, like disposing of bodies. Is it a dog? No. I I I guess that'd be amazing. Well, I'm gonna think like dogs eat bones, and I don't know. Uh they don't polish them though. No, but none of these things make sense. Um to be alive. What a time- I don't know. You want the sentence? I'll need the sentence. The room was full of bone polishers, all nodding along that they'd come up with the idea themselves. Oh, is it like nerds and like smart people? Bootlickers and sycophants. Okay, why they're bone polishers. God dang it. They're just polishing his bone, making him feel good. Yes, men. Oh gosh. See, I think that there's more opportunity for me to use that one in my day-to-day life than on wheels. Than on wheels? Oh, you're such a bone polisher. Oh, these frickin' bone polishers. Oh, that's good. Damn. You guys have any pride, you freaking bone polishers? You're just polishing his bone. Yes, ma'am. Making him feel good. That's it's it's Son of a biscuit. It's a little Can we not go easy to hard next time? Realistically, you should go hardest to easiest so I can feel good about myself near the end. Last time. That was different. I was super smart last episode. It was too easy. But they weren't. Turns out four for six is going to likely stay as my record for a while. So you were one for six or point five for six? I just simply one. Well amalgamate.
SPEAKER_02It'll be uh it'll be an egg.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, four and a half out of twelve. An egg. Did you see them throw that card? Yeah, I did. I'm I'm flustered right now. That was that was some pretty good phrase, right? Like, I mean, if you guys, you know what? When you uh get in touch with our show, which we'll discuss later on, we'll send you these. You can work them into your everyday life. Because they are they are great phrases. And we need to bring them back. Frick. Alright, we're going into a movie. This man, after just getting beaten down by a 1930s gangster slang. Beaten kicked, spit on, is now uh getting assigned a movie, which honestly Oh my god, is this phrasing gonna be in this movie? No, but it's it's error appropriate. Son of Okay, so here's the thing. So as we've gone back through the how is the movie segment, for those of you who have played along at home, we first started with 1950s. Then we jumped ahead to the 70s. Stuck around. Early 70s, and then we went back to the late 60s. Yeah. So for the first time, we're gonna touch the 1940s. Oh, good era. But here okay, so here's the thing. No color in this movie, is there? Not a stitch. Okay, so the movie is Detour, 1945. But here's you'll like this though. It's only 68 minutes long. Oh, you know what? That is actually a very nice touch. So because the next movie I'm giving you is three hours and forty-two minutes. Okay, so here's the thing. I need to hit up a 40s movie before this season ended, and this is the last one of the season that will be assigned. Yes, it is. Better be a good movie. Okay, well, here's the thing. It better be a good movie. Okay, here's the thing, though. Yeah, that really boosts my confidence. I mean, it is one of my favorite movies of all time. Yeah, well, here are you again. Starring Tom Neal and Anne Savage. Ooh.
SPEAKER_02Okay, so Anne Savage, seriously, is one of the coolest femme faites of all time. Okay.
SPEAKER_03And the nastiest dames in film noir. And I've gotten my bullet points here. It is one of the most film noir of film noirs. Ah, jeez. Like, just shit just doesn't go well for these people. You want the you want the you want the pipeline? I want this plot? The the loose plot? The synopsis. Okay, so a piano player's girlfriend, so that's Tom Neal and Ann Savage. Uh, pianist squirrel. Piano player's girlfriend heads out to Los Angeles to further her career. He decides to follow her out there hitchhiking, and his trip is derailed by bad luck and worse timing. Ah, so this is like uh older, worse version of uh shit. Now see now I forgot the name of the movie I'm so basically the girl goes out to LA, he's on you know the East Coast, and what movie am I thinking of? I I certainly don't know. Yeah, you do. It's a Thanksgiving movie. People always watch it on Christmas off. Trains, planes, and on the streets? Yeah, I might think of the worst version of that. Because they're going to road trip and then things like that. Well, I didn't yeah, it's nothing like that. Oh, but shit goes wrong, but it's worse. Well, it it's different. He's not trying to connect, he's just he's just hitchhiking and hooks up with Anne Savage's character. Sure, sure. Okay. And Ann Savage is so goddamn good in this movie. Yep. I'll keep that in mind. Um, but here's the thing. So here's a it so the movie is on YouTube. Oh, nice. Okay, that's nice actually. Not that website. No, but there's also don't tell me I gotta pay for this one. No, I'm gonna send you two links. I'm gonna send you the link to the movie. Right again, it's only six to eight minutes long. Okay, but I'm also before you watch the movie. Oh, I got pre-work. I'm sending you a link to an Eddie Muller, because this is a play, I don't know if you're familiar with Turn of Classic Movies, TCM. I am okay, Eddie Muller, who hosts their weekly film Noir. Okay. I think we've looked at this man before. Yes. Um, anyways, there is on YouTube, I've got bookmarked the link to his TCM intro, which gives a little backstory to this movie. Okay. Kind of some production notes and yada yada. It will be helpful to understanding the plot. Well, it'll give you some context to before you watch this and go. Ah, he's the prequel. So watch, I will send you the the Eddie Mueller intro, and then you watch the movie. Okay. Because it's it's a and savage is so good. Oh my god. But yes, it'll give you some history and context. Okay. So you're not going and going, what the hell is this? You'll go, oh, after hearing it's it's like a five-minute little chat. Okay. And you'll go to that it'll give you some better understanding as what the hell is going on. Okay. And I believe the movie was made for $26,000. I mean, that was 1945, my sure. But still, it's an amazing movie. I will uh VR, you will definitely want to watch this movie if you've not already seen it. So I will send you the link too, because I know you may has that movie been made yet where he's from? Are they still delayed there? Actually, it's new there. I was gonna say. It's like he might be able to watch it in theaters. Right. Okay, so Okay. And this was a movie right away when we started doing the segments like I I want you to see this, but I want to open with it. And the fact that it's only it's it's basically an hour. It's it's an hour and a bit. Okay. And it and it's it's I can deal with that. And once you watch the intro, it'll give you an appreciation for okay, the mindset. Sure. And for other film noirs too, actually. Okay, good to know. Well, back to the mailbag? Yeah. We'll go back to the mailbag. Alright, you got one? Uh I do. Oh, mine's two pages. Oh, geez. Page and a bit. Okay, you go ahead. Hey fellas. That's us. We're the fellas. First off, I've been a fan from the beginning and I'm loving the show. I love fans. That said. Oh. It's always the what's always that. There's something I just haven't been able to shake. Oh boy. Your new segment. Say, what? We just did that today. You know what's funny though, uh, Ritor. You you spelled something wrong there. Funny. I'm not gonna say what though. Leave it to the imagination of people. It's a great vibe. I mean, who knew Big Uke was such a smart guy? Well, that's awkward reading this after this last round. Yeah, in the first round I suspected you were. I I thought I was. Uh in the first round, he was asked what Giggle water was. And while he got it kind of correct by saying champagne, he missed the mark when he said there's a champagne called Gigglewater. Knowing some of the people he might be inclined to share some Giggle water with, he should really know it's actually just a brand of Prosecco.
SPEAKER_02This sounds like a lot of semantics.
SPEAKER_03Also, champagne only comes from the champagne region of France, so Giggle water is not considered champagne. I don't want to say be better, but like maybe. Anyways, thanks for the splash of entertainment cheat week. Spicy disaster. You know what? I don't uh My last round I say what now was a pretty spicy disaster, I'll tell you that for me. I don't I don't know who the spicy disaster is, but I I see a theme this week with the letters. Real kick you while he's down, huh? Seem to be a real flick you in the nutsack, and I don't uh I can't get behind that because I stand beside my boy. Well, you sit actually. True. But if we didn't have chairs, I would have to be standing beside each other. Be standing. Well, let me get to our last letter. I do appreciate the letters. I'll keep sending them. Yeah, please. Maybe that's all you want. Dear gentlemen of WS. Hey, gentlemen, that's us. No need to edit this. I pride myself on being both punctual and clear. Okay. Very confident, too. Don't mention that. Confident writer. I've been listening since day one, and I feel partially responsible for whatever it is you've got going on over there. Well, that's that's by over there, I mean the fifth floor of Blunderworks Studios in the city. Sun it downtown. Sunday downtown. It's a perfect mix of this has no direction, and I physically cannot turn this off. We have the banter, the side quests, the unwavering confidence in things that are almost certainly incorrect. Okay. I don't know how to take that. That feels like a shot. A little bit. I mean Oh, it says no notes. I mean, I do have notes, but they'd absolutely end up in three things I can kick rocks. Yeah, you're probably right. So noted. I should also report that my almost one-year-old is completely locked in whenever your podcast is on. Zero blinking, full focus, face one foot from the TV. I've decided that doesn't count as screen time. It feels medically sound. Raise them right. That's what I always say. I think uh that's just good parenting. Maybe fix them uh fix them an old-fashioned at the same time. Uh so thank you for babysitting while I fold laundry. Feel free to add infant babysitter to your credentials. Oh, we will be. Even more concerning, my boomer mom.
unknownFucking boomers.
SPEAKER_03Fucking boomers. Now listens too. On the bright side, it's given her something to text me about besides earthquakes and AI generated Facebook reels. So thank you for your service. Amy. You're welcome. P.S. Please never get organized. It would ruin everything. God damn it, Amy. You know what? I really can get behind you on the scourge that is uh AI generated reels. And earthquakes. Get out of here. I got time for earthquakes. They're kind of neat. They're doing their thing. They don't hurt nobody. Well, I mean, yes, that's actually factually incorrect. Wait a minute. They hurt many people yet. Wait a minute. They're terrible. They're actually terrible for hurting people. But I mean, it's not like they're trying to do it. Well, they could they can't help it. They kick rocks. Um thank you, Amy. Very much appreciate that. Yes, very much appreciate that, Amy. That letter feels like it came from the heart, which An almost one-year-old. I think that means it probably roughly around birthday time. So happy birthday to your yes. Yes. Some people claim that uh I maybe don't have a heart myself, but uh I do. It's like inverse grinch. Yes. Well, shall we get to uh liner number two before we kick rocks? Yes, we shall. What do you got there? The second opinion parking app. They're back. They're back. I just I I use this almost daily. Did it help you? No. Did it make you feel good about your choices? Not even a little bit, which perfect is what they're going for. Effective. Most parking apps help you find a spot. This isn't one of those. The second opinion parking app waits quietly, patiently. And the moment you've committed, meter paid, engine off, life choices locked in, it lets you know where you could have parked. Closer, easier, better. Just a little too late. Available in most major metropolitan areas, and for some reason, a few rural runs. Popular rural parking app. Two. A rural parking app who tells you where you could have been close. Right by the grain elevators. Would have been better when you parked out by the silo. You know there was parking behind the PV mart that you didn't even explore. That PV Mart, eh? Rest in peace. Card throwing. Rest in peace. Go to hell. Alright, are we getting into three things that can kick rocks? What's kicking rocks today? This week, old tuber. Here we go. Three things. Number one, those z shitty, crappy then versus now AI videos. Have you seen those? Yes. And it's like a musician or an actor or a and they're just so weird and awkward and weird. And they're like walking beside each other and or they're sitting down and taking a selfie beside their dead, they got they got wings or a halo. They're so bad. They're not good. They're cringy. They are extremely and and the worst part is half the time they don't even look good. Like at least if it looked they look really clunky. Some of them just don't even look like that person. And I made the mistake of watching one. And now that's the algorithm. And no, every time I go up to open the YouTube. You guys should watch our show so the algorithm picks it up. Yes, every time I go to open up the YouTube to do show stuff, all my shorts are all these stupid, crappy. Oh, we're sitting beside on a couch or we're doing a selfie with or we're walking down a it's so gross. Yeah, they're not good. AI slop can kick rocks so hard. Oh my god. Can't disagree with you on that one. Number two. Nut milks. Milk is milk. Milk doesn't come from an almond, but it does when you milk it. There's no teeth on an almond. Don't call it a milk. I've got nipples, Greg. Can you milk me? Can you milk me? That was a movie assignment I had a while ago. Hey oh. So I mean, then there's a time and a place. Would you be okay if they just called it like almond juice? Sure. So it's just the the term of milk. Yes, calling it because it's not milk. Milking is the action of okay. Nut milks. It's not milk. So it's nut juice. Nuts don't have milk. Stop it. Nut liquid. Hmm. That's a phrase. Don't Google that. And number three, the 1877 Cars for Kids banned. Oh, and the worst part is they've been the same kids for like a decade. They're not getting better. It would have been, I think, funnier, more funny, if they would have used the same kids in the commercials year after year. Now they're like 32 years old, still sucking. They're so bad. It's awful. They're mailing it in. I don't even think they're really playing. I don't think they are. Because that chick on the drums, I don't even think she's hitting the drum set. It's just. Also, do you know anyone who in entire life has ever used that? Like it's I've been hearing that ad for millennia, and I've never known someone who's, you know, giving their car to Well, I was gonna sell my car, but you know what? Instead, I'm gonna give it away. Rather, give it away and get a hundred and fifty dollar tax receipt. Yeah. No, I cannot suspend disbelief enough to buy into that band as a functioning musical unit. They're terrible. And I don't know why they went with such bizarro late 80s style guitar like BC reaching. I mean, we're talking about it. But yeah. Anyways. That's a good list. 1877 cars for kids. Again, I'm sure the program's fine. It's the band that really commercial, that's the band that really rubs me the wrong way because they've been at it for a long time and they should be better by now. Shall we uh start wrapping things up here? I think we should. My goodness, should we ever? Yeah. Edgar's giving us the wave.
