Stop Chasing Wellness
Raise Your Vibe
Show Notes Transcript

Everything in the universe is in constant motion and puts out a specific vibrational frequency.  Sound is a vibration that has the ability to help heal our minds and bodies.  Humans operate within a specific vibrational range.  The sound that is emitted from specific healing tools emits a vibrational frequency that is at a very different range than where the human body operates.  Bathing yourself in this higher frequency can heal the body by literally raising your vibes.  Our special guest, Ashley Nicole helps us to have a deeper understanding of the amazing concept called: Sound Bathing.  If you're familiar with sound bathing, you've most likely felt the benefits of this amazing healing modality.  And if you have no idea what sound bathing is, stay tuned and listen with an open mind.  We guarantee by the end of this podcast you'll be a believer in what this can do to help you in some pretty impressive ways.

Ashley is a holistic facilitator passionate about helping people heal from trauma, pain, and addiction.  She believes that the most powerful healing tools are within us, and that nature is our greatest teacher.

As someone who has been on her own arduous healing journey, she knows what it feels like to experience the darkness.  Ashley also knows that embracing it helped guide her towards the infinite light that is available to every one of us. Yoga, breathwork, sound healing, and meditation were gifts that helped her recover, and she truly believes that they hold everything we need to make it through. She loves connecting with people and empowering them with tools that will enrich their lives for years to come.

Sharing these holistic tools fills Ashley's heart with gratitude and reminds her of the inner light and resilience that resides in every one of us. She believes that we all have the power to ascend out of our darkest moments and connect to our highest vibration.

We are so proud to have Ashley join us for this podcast.
We asked Ashley to educate us on the concept of sound healing.
So let's get right to it.
All right.
Well, hello everyone, and welcome Ashley.
We're so excited to have you here with Gina and I today to share a little bit about the
benefits of sound bathing.
I am familiar with it, Gina's familiar with it, I think there's probably people that are
and a whole lot of people that have no idea what the heck that is when you say sound bathing
or sound healing.
So I'm going to let you just take it right off the bat and explain to us what is this?
How can people heal from just sound?
Absolutely.
Thank you so much for having me on today, Kristin and Gina, honored to be here and share
in this medicine and spread the just awareness of sound and how it can really benefit so
many aspects of our lives.
And so I always like to start with energetically how sound is healing.
And so it circles back to the theory of resonance and that all things in the universe are in
constant motion.
And so our bodies are oscillating and we're giving out a frequency into the world.
And so think about your internal organs, your brain, your heartbeat, your liver, your kidneys,
all are generating a frequency.
And so the human body is typically somewhere around 62 to 78 megahertz at frequency level.
And just a little side note, dis-ease, I like to call it, right, can start anywhere from
58 megahertz, and that is where cancer can grow.
And so the sound frequency is very important because the sound healing instruments are
giving out a very high level frequency.
So for example, we have crystal singing bowls, and those are resonating at 432 hertz.
So a much higher frequency.
And so as a sound practitioner, I play these different instruments in an effort to synchronize
the energy and the frequencies.
So if you are in a low level frequency, maybe you are anxious or you have depression, you
are at a very low level frequency.
And these sound instruments are resonating at a high frequency.
So your body's energy starts to try to match that level of higher frequency.
And that's how you can kind of lift up.
You've heard people say high vibe.
That's kind of where that comes from.
So say that again, where the human body is typically, where's the frequency of the human
body in a normal state?
Yep, it's at about 62 to 78 megahertz.
Wow.
So then the bowls are at 432.
So this is all starting to make a little more sense.
I just know that I like it.
I don't know what this is or why it works.
I just love it.
Right.
Right.
It's so great.
It begins to help us balance the chakras, the energy system points in the body.
And so for those folks unfamiliar with the chakras, there are seven energy points in
the body.
And I like to explain that as we have masculine energy, we have feminine energy, it doesn't
matter your gender.
And the energy points flow through the body.
And as those masculine energies and feminine energies intersect, they create an energy
center, which is a chakra.
And the chakras start at the base of the spine, they go all the way up to the crown of the
head.
And sometimes in life, we experience trauma.
We have different events that really store in the body, we've read the book, The Body
Keeps the Score, right, so it holds some of that trauma within.
And in an effort to playing these sound healing instruments, the energy starts to move around
in the body, where maybe we once had blockages, or we're holding on to tension, holding on
to dis-ease.
And so the sound will start to move that energy around within our chakra system, and allow
us to flow freely, kind of finding that freedom.
And it affects really every cell in our body, which is very, very interesting.
And so this is nothing new.
It leads all the way back to ancient Greek, ancient Egypt times, but modern science is
just now catching up.
And yeah.
It's something that's been innate, right?
It's innate.
That's why we love it so much.
We love the bulls, we feel good when we're around the sound healing, the sound baths.
It makes us naturally feel good.
And now, like I said, science is catching up.
So now we know what's actually happening, but inside, we've always been feeling it.
Exactly, exactly.
And so some of the juicy science behind some of this is that it really affects our cognitive
functions.
And so in a world that is noisy, and a lot going on, we're constantly overstimulated.
The brain's working really hard to figure out all the different sounds.
And so the sound healing actually restores our cognitive function so that the mind can
really slow down and relax.
And that in turn gives our nervous system a chance to also soften.
So many times, most of us are living in a fight or flight mode constantly, driving in
traffic.
You think how tense your body gets just from driving, right?
And so the sound healing instruments allow the nervous system to come back down to a
baseline so that we can process our emotions a little bit more clear.
We have more mental clarity.
It's an add-on to meditation, right?
When we meditate, we get our thoughts calm and collected.
It calms down the central nervous system just a few minutes a day.
I have studies showing that someone can work eight hours a day and be scrambled and stressed
out and doing 300 things an hour.
And then someone else can meditate for 20 minutes, work those same eight hours.
And at the end, that person can still go on and have a normal productive rest of their
day where the other person needs a nap and they're stressed out and they're pissed off
and not right.
And this is another way, it sounds like it just helps calm and organize those thoughts.
Absolutely.
I mean, and it's huge for people that suffer from anxiety.
Anxiety is such a big one.
When we experience high anxiety, the body produces cortisol.
And so that's that stress hormone, right?
And that in turn will suppress the immune system.
And so the sound therapy actually changes the brainwave state and it allows us to feel
more relaxed.
It helps us to reduce that stress and that fatigue that we experience when we have anxiety.
You pointed out that this goes so far back to like ancient Greek times.
And I feel like so much of that old, old medicine, old traditions and stuff go back to those
days where they were paying more attention to that stuff.
They were more in tune with that where we've gotten so far away from it now with modern
medicine is just give a pill and prescribe something.
If you're feeling anxious, take this pill when there's so much benefit that we just
look back at ancient times, like ancient Greek or a lot of even things in ancient Asian cultures
where they did yoga and meditation and all that stuff way back then.
And the medicines and the herbs and all that stuff, we've gotten so far away from that.
Absolutely.
Yeah.
And there's benefit to it.
So going back to this, look at how much benefit it can be.
Plus it just feels good.
And you said something, when I have gone and done sound bathing and I've got more going
on in my brain or in my body, if there's more stuff just going on in my life, I feel like
I've gotten much more benefit out of it.
When I go to sound bathing and I'm like, and I am like stress going on and it just feels
so much better when it's, when I'm there than when I go in, maybe just feeling more relaxed.
I don't feel like I'm like, Oh, I didn't get that much out of it.
I went to one on new year's day.
Now we're July 26, we're the end of July now, right?
I haven't been to one since other than playing my own bowls.
I haven't been to one since, but I just know how great I felt and what a great intention
it was like.
It's a new year.
It's a brand new year.
It's the first day of the year.
And just leaving there, I felt like I was just floating.
I can accomplish anything now, like I could just feel good.
And I never made the connection before about the megahertz of the bowls compared to where
we're at.
I've always known like we want to be high or vibing people versus low negativity, sick,
like the lower vibrations, but I never knew how to connect one to the other.
Like I never understood that part of it.
Yeah, I find it so interesting how much it can really help with the nervous system.
I think a lot of people really battle the nerves, you know, and we're not really taught
in school how to manage things like that.
And, you know, where is the cancer frequency?
The cancer frequency is at 58 megahertz.
And so, you know, our human body starts at about 62.
So if it drops just a few points, you know, that is where cancer can grow and those moments
of dis-ease and discomfort in our lives really start to progress.
Ashley, how is that measured?
Is there a tool, like a vibrational tool?
So that's where modern science is coming in, you know, and they're doing more and more
testing and starting to understand this frequency.
I am not sure exactly how they, all the science behind it, energetically, I see it changing
and I can feel it changing myself.
And so I work in a few facilities where folks are recovering from drugs and alcohol abuse,
mental illnesses.
And typically they are in, you know, a real low level frequency.
And a lot of people that come into my classes, you know, they're new to sound healing.
I think the old saying is, it's a bunch of woo-woo, right?
Probably heard that.
But I think it's just so beautiful and magical when I have these newcomers in the class and
they are just open.
You know, they're open to see how it is for them.
And once they really realize and feel these benefits, it's just a beautiful thing for
me to witness the transformation and the change for these folks to really start to work on
their anxiety.
It helps to lower those anxiety levels, the depression.
It really helps to clear a very anxious mind.
That is, I felt it myself and I, like I said, I don't understand, I never understood how.
I just lay there and I'm like, this feels really good.
So to, and I'm thinking of this, my brain's kind of ping ponging all over.
We're talking about the bowls, but there's also, there's other things like the Buffalo
drum and like, what is the thing that makes the sound of the rain?
And like, there's so many different instruments that just, you just makes your brain kind
of float from, and the emotions and things that come up and the thoughts.
And when you just lay there and let your brain drift, it's just so transformative, but talk
about, can you tell us about some of the other, some of the other instruments that you use?
Yes, absolutely.
So the gong is another very important sound healing instrument.
The gong can be almost described as the lazy meditators sound healing instrument, because
if you have a hard time sitting down to meditate, when you hear the gong, the gong will take
your mind in so many different directions.
And so instead of thinking about the bills you have to pay in your to-do list, the brain
is actually following the different sounds that the gong is releasing and resonating
out.
And there's some more science behind the gong therapy.
There's a really interesting study that was done where they take blood work prior to a
gong session, and they take a look at the white blood cells.
And typically the white cells are kind of distorted, a little fuzzy, a little foggy.
And after about an hour of gong therapy, same subjects are retested.
And the white blood cells are these perfect round white balls that are bouncing and happy.
And it's just very interesting to see the change just in an hour of gong therapy.
Wow.
I didn't, I just learned about the gong recently.
I've seen videos and things of people using that, and that looks really interesting.
It is.
It's really magical.
And there are also so many other instruments.
We have the ocean drum, and many times that takes a person back to the ocean on vacation.
The ocean can be such a happy place.
And so it really brings in some of those happy memories and visions that you're able to kind
of transport yourself to another place.
And that's really, really beautiful.
You've got like the native flute.
There are tuning forks, which are some of my favorites.
Are you familiar with tuning forks?
I actually have tuning forks that I've never used before, because I need all the things,
but I don't know how to use them all.
So I do have a tuning fork, and I have a tongue drum also that I got from Santa.
And when I open that up, it looks, when they play that online, it looks so easy.
When I opened it up, I was like, all right, there was a little more involved to this.
That's so funny, I got my Santa too.
Tell us about the tuning forks, I'd love to hear about that.
Yes, I love the forks.
And so the tuning forks, they're all set to a different frequency.
So some can be set to the nervous system.
There's some for the chakras.
I mean, they're for everything and anything, the cosmos, the planets.
And the fork is held, and you tap the fork on the hand, or maybe you tap the fork together,
you hold them up by your ears.
And so your body starts to hear the frequency and tries to resonate with it, tries to match
it.
Your body's frequency is lifted up to that higher vibration.
And I have a three-year-old little girl, and sometimes she has real big feelings.
We all do that, right?
And I will get the tuning forks out and hold them up to her ear.
They also have body forks that can be placed on the body where you can feel the physical
vibration.
And it will bring her back down out of that anger, out of that tantrum, and help her to
just calm down.
And so in the morning, you can actually, I think it's funny, you can fork yourself, but
actually tune your nervous system.
So to start the day, it's really great to use those forks in meditation and build it
into your morning routine so that you can just start out on a higher vibrational level.
I love that.
I'm so intrigued by that.
I really think now I'm like, I got to go get some forks.
Forks I know people that need forks.
I recommend the body forks because those can, you can actually feel it on your third eye
or your heart.
You can set them on the body and they work just the same as using them at the ears as
well.
Oh my gosh.
Okay.
I've got to look into that.
I'm sure you can help me find- Find the right kind, yes.
Start off by forking myself.
I know.
This is my classes.
Okay.
Just fork yourselves guys.
Forks, right?
Yup.
That's it.
So what do you, you can tap it on the body even?
Yup.
So you hold it by the stem nice and loose.
Yup.
You tap it on the hand.
You can tap them together and hold it right there by the ears.
I love you had these forks and you've never used them, Gina.
This is crazy.
That's just crazy.
I love it.
And you know, Ashley, it must just be so rewarding for you to do the work that you do, especially
in like some of these trauma centers and these recovery centers and just seeing the benefit
of what this does to help people through these really hard, traumatic things that they're
going through.
It must just be such a reward to that.
So- Oh, absolutely.
I mean, my own healing journey has really led me to this work and I had to realize at
about 30 years old that I was holding my breath.
I was holding tension and stress in my body and my jaw, my hands, my hips, you know?
And so I started out teaching yoga and really got into the breath work portion of these
healing modalities.
And so sound is kind of my newer bonus.
And I think it really has helped me to release a lot of trauma that I've held within my body
and release the things that I no longer need, you know, that I'm holding onto that those
traumatic experiences and that depression, anxiety, it helps us to stay at a low level
frequency, right?
And it can create that dis-ease and discomfort in the body, even physical ailments.
So it is such a beautiful to work with these folks in the recovery center and just see
their transformations and how much this medicine really helps to heal their lives.
I don't want to forget about the sleep.
You know, sleep is a huge, huge, important part of balancing out our hormones.
And so sound healing offerings can really, really help alleviate some of that stress
and anxiety, bringing you back down to the baseline so that you can get that good night's
sleep and rest.
A lot of times too, people will fall asleep in a sound healing.
I've heard it.
It's okay.
You know, your body needs it.
Your body needs to heal.
And so it's okay to fall asleep.
It's great to put these frequencies on at nighttime, you know, and listen to them through
the night.
There's so many great tools out there that we all tend to work in silos, right?
Like there's sound healing, there's hormone coaching like we do.
But it's so, it's such a blessing for Kristin and I that we get to meet with folks like
you and all these other great modalities that everybody has and just us included learning
how we can tie them all together and just really have total wellness.
I love that you call it medicine.
It is medicine.
Absolutely.
Absolutely.
I definitely try to stay away from pharmaceuticals as much as possible.
I know that some mental health illnesses, you may need certain and proper medication
and that is important.
And so this alongside of working with medicine like that, Western medicine, really just helps
for that full circle.
It's only going to help.
And Gina and I recently did a podcast with a woman who specializes in helping people
with PMDD, which is basically just extreme severe PMS.
And it's a real thing and it will wreak havoc on people's lives, but it really comes down
to the trauma that your body is holding onto and how it manifests.
And we did a podcast also, gosh, a few months back with our friend in common, Carrie Sincule,
who talked about using yoga to just help the body heal from past trauma.
It's like thinking about whatever...
We all carry things, whether big or small, like big T trauma, little T trauma.
It could be some big thing like sex abuse or divorce or a drug addiction, or it could
be little things, but it's all in there, it all gets held onto.
Absolutely.
It's beautiful to help people that have had trauma related issues like PTSD, physical
pain.
Oftentimes I'll have a client share with me at the end of a session that maybe their knee
was hurting or their back was hurting prior to the session.
And after an hour of sound therapy, they're walking out of there in less pain or maybe
a little to no pain.
So I always find that very, very interesting.
Also reducing the risk of depression helps with addictions.
And so very powerful to help with the traumatic experiences our body is holding onto.
That's excellent.
This is really great stuff.
And it's okay...
Ashley, I know I went to one of your classes and it was like in a room or in a beautiful
studio and there's other people in there, but you're talking to us about all these other
different tools and instruments and stuff, is that people don't have to go to a class
to do this.
You were even saying something about listening to these things at night when you're falling
asleep.
So if people listen to something like on an app or on a YouTube or it's like a recorded
thing, are they still getting as much benefit when they're not in the room in front of the
instruments themselves?
Or do you think there's a frequency different?
You know, that's a great question.
I do believe there are still benefits of listening to these frequencies over Spotify or Insight
Timer is another one that I like.
The Calm app has a lot of them as well.
And so I do believe that people will still get those benefits.
You can do sound healing offerings on a one-to-one virtual just over Zoom.
And I think that there is something magical about being in the room with the instruments.
You can physically feel the difference in the vibrations.
Oftentimes my clients will lay with their heads next to the singing bowls and they often
will have a better experience in the sound offering.
But I think for those folks at home, you know, you're still getting the benefits of the frequency
even over the phone or the internet.
How about being in a room and talk to us about people who might be afraid to go because they're
afraid of how they might react, right?
There's a lot of different physical reactions that come out of people during a sound healing
or a group-led meditation or something, right?
Someone might get emotional or start crying, someone might start giggling, someone might
fall asleep or there's many different or sometimes it's just way too much energy and
someone might be bugging out in there and just want to leave but they're afraid to leave.
So I'm sure you've experienced different responses from people.
Absolutely.
And at the beginning of every sound offering, I like to set this container.
You know, I explain to people that emotions may come up.
You may even feel tingly or numb in the fingers or toes.
And energetically, that is the energy that's stuck in the body actually starting to move
again and to release.
And so I invite you to cry, don't hold back.
It's so important to let those emotions go during these offerings.
And that's trauma leaving the body.
Sometimes I had in one session, a guy, he was laying completely flat and during the
gong portion, he jumped up, jolted and immediately went into like a child's pose and just stayed
there.
And he was crying and it was a beautiful experience for him to release some major trauma that
he was holding on to.
And like I mentioned, it's okay if you fall asleep.
You know, I'll always let people know if they start snoring, they might get a love squeeze.
But your body will still heal from the medicine even when you're sleeping.
And we carry it with us afterwards.
Like when you leave, when you turn off the music or the soundtrack or whatever, or you
walk out of the class, that frequency still working within you, right?
Like one of the instructors I had done this who introduced me to sound healing a few years
back was explained, and I don't remember how, but like for how long afterwards you carrying
this vibration with you, maybe some of it might be days or longer.
Yeah, I think it's important, you know, during to think about the science behind what's actually
happening physically to your body and bringing that nervous system back down, clearing a
busy mind, you know.
Just taking that hour session where we can come back down and be grounded, it helps and
it carries with us for, you know, it's different for everyone, of course, but days, hours,
weeks after the session.
Because if that person goes right back out into traffic and gets caught right back in
the moment versus someone who goes home and just sits out by a park or a lake or something
in the afternoon and just has carries that with them.
Yeah, absolutely.
And I think it's also important to note that the more and more you practice meditation,
practice this breath work, the more you are exposing yourself to the sound frequencies,
the more benefits that you'll have.
You know, I always encourage people to try at least three sessions.
If you do one, you may be moving some of that traumatic energy that you're storing and so
it might feel uncomfortable at first, but I always invite you to lean into that discomfort
and give yourself the opportunity to heal.
And I know for me, even after I've done some of these sessions, I will find like, later
on something will just become very clear to me, like it could be days later where it's
like, that's why that happened or like all these little moments of clarity that just
keep popping up afterwards, I think.
So there's a lot of truth, obviously, to just how it helps set those chakras into balance
and kind of gets that energy flowing because it just, yeah, things start to become more
clear.
Things become more, yeah, like you can understand things a little better, I guess, so.
Absolutely.
That mental clarity starts to really kick in.
It is one of the major benefits.
This has been so great.
I really appreciate your time.
Gina, do you have any other questions?
No, I'm so happy right now.
Like, I love that.
That was literally the first time I've used this thing since Christmas, the tuning fork.
And I keep doing it throughout the podcast because I just love it.
And I just think it's really helpful.
On that tuning fork, there is a number there and you can look it up, you can Google the
frequency and see exactly what that frequency is.
Yep.
It's 432.
It's the 432.
Yep.
I didn't even know that.
The frequency of healing.
Perfect.
Sorry.
Everybody go out and get a tuning fork.
This was really excellent.
I love it so much.
Thank you so much for your time.
And I just love how we're able to tie one more modality into the gift of wellness.
Absolutely.
I'm so thankful to be here and to share the morning with you ladies and just share it
to spread this medicine.
We do have one final question at the end of our podcast.
Like we explained before, Gina and I wrote a book and the book is called Stop Chasing
Wellness, Create It.
And that's also the name of our business.
And we named our book Stop Chasing Wellness because we decided first it was we put the
cart before the horse, hey, let's write a book.
And we didn't know what we were going to call the book.
But as we were writing the book and started, we really outlined what are the pillars from
which we teach?
What are the things that we want people to learn if we were working with somebody as
a client?
And when we were putting this together, we realized one of us blurted out that people
just got to stop chasing wellness because everybody's after the idea of just this fad
diet or this rabbit hole or, oh, my friend tried this and this worked.
So that's where the name came about for Stop Chasing Wellness.
So that's our idea was to help people create what wellness was and just take down all those
kind of dispel the ideas that you're chasing and just come back to the basics of here's
how to create it, here's how to create wellness.
So we like to ask our podcast guests at the end, what does Stop Chasing Wellness mean
to you?
Great.
I love it.
I need to get a copy of the book.
I have not read it yet, but it is on my list.
So to me, I think it really means cultivating many important pieces in your life as it relates
to holistic healing.
So first, I think it's important how you show up for yourself in this world.
Are you controlling your own energy?
Are you letting the busy mind take over?
Learning how to grieve.
When you can breathe, you are able to control the nervous system naturally.
And so meditation, so important, I think in our daily lives.
Practicing self-care.
So many people see those diets and they want a quick fix, right?
But they're not fully taking care of themselves physically, mentally.
I think the power of affirmation cards.
So important to stand in the mirror and do those affirmations for yourself, to balance
mental health, have a good self-image and have positive self-worth.
So important.
And of course, nurturing your body with all those healthy, delicious foods from Mother
Earth.
You know, none of that processed fast food.
And so very important what we eat and what we're putting into our bodies.
And of course, adding the movement.
You know, if you're not into yoga, even a simple walk around the neighborhood, getting
out into nature, there are so many profound benefits of yoga.
So I highly recommend that as well.
But I think it's very important to take care of yourself in full circle, all around the
mind, body, soul connection.
Awesome.
We wholeheartedly agree.
