Why Life Feels Heavy
SPEAKER_00Before we begin, if life feels heavier than it should right now, it's probably not because you need to do more. It's probably because you're carrying too much. And when you simplify, you create space. And when there's space, your energy comes back and clarity comes back. And that's when things start to really work again. And that's what today's episode is all about. Hello and welcome to the James Granstrom Podcast Super Solar Model Series. In this episode, I'm going to be sharing with you how you can release stuck energy and whether that's in your health, whether that's in your relationships, or whether that's with your wealth. If there's any area that's stuck, we're going to release it by following this really timeless principle, which is to simplify it. And when you simplify your life, you're also going to be able to amplify it. Now, there's this beautiful quote written by Henry David Thoreau, and he said, Our life is frittered by details. Simplify, simplify. And really what he's trying to say is our life can feel absolutely overwhelming at times. We can feel stuck, we can feel frustrated, we can feel that there's not much flow. And really what he's saying is that when we learn how to release stuck energy by simplifying our life, then the flow of life begins again, meaning there's more abundance, there's more happiness, there's more health, but your relationships serve you better. And I really also appreciate how Wayne Dyer took this concept to the next level in a spiritual way. He was like saying, you can simplify your thinking, you can simplify your emotions. And here I am saying you can simplify loads of other areas aside from your thoughts, your attachments, your challenges. You can simplify them. And I want to share with you some practical advice in this episode. You know, I personally simplified an area of my life which was way out of control, and that was health. My health was way out of control, especially being an alcoholic at a young age and didn't even know it, and partying so much that my entire system, a nervous system, was way out of whack. And it was only when I began to simplify my life that I see firsthand little changes that eventually became an avalanche of change. And I've been well for 22 years with only a couple of blips in that time. But that just says, just simplifying your life, whether it's your health, your relationships, or even your wealth, whatever it may be, even if it's all three, simplifying will be the solution. And now, in order for this timeless principle to really work for you, you've got to get really honest. Because what happens after you recognize where you're at, whether it feels heavy or it feels stuck, then you can start moving forwards because first it takes awareness. And if you can get brutally honest like I did with myself, with my health and with my finances, where am I in relationship to where I want to be? I recognize the main culprit was perhaps I was putting way too much on my plate. I was over-exerting myself in all areas only to think it would get better, but it never did. So if you can honestly ask yourself, where does an area of your life feel heavy? And let's just say it might be finances, is your relationship to your finances feeling stuck because you've over-exerted yourself, you've got more expenses than income? And if so, where could you simplify? If it's your relationships and they're feeling heavy or they're feeling stuck, then maybe there's a lack of understanding or a lack of meeting each other's needs, or perhaps just a shortage of really listening to your partner. Because when we really try and put ourselves in other people's shoes, we'll understand where they're coming from. And if it's your health and your health feels stuck, maybe you can just start adding some simple things and omit other things, and maybe you'll find a balance. Maybe the flow will return of well-being. And if you don't even know what that feels like, maybe you're overweight and you've been overweight for years and you want to get slim, maybe there's something here where you could simplify. And in simplifying, you'll notice that the weight naturally sheds by itself. I have noticed this in all areas, not only in my own experience, but mainly in my clients as well, that sometimes the challenges we have is because we don't simplify. So once you understand where your energy feels heavy or feels stuck, then the next thing you want to do is learn how to release any attachment to anything. Because as soon as we release attachment, we free up energy. It's a bit like when you let go of the clenched fist, you open the palm, and that's when things happen. That is when the energy starts to flow again. And ultimately, the only fight that you'll ever have is with yourself. And when you begin to change the way you look at things, then the things that you look at begin to change. And when we learn that we can simplify our life in all areas, then we'll notice there's a freedom, there's a power, there's a natural flow within our life that kind of just takes care of us. And sometimes it takes a lot for us to even trust that that flow is even present. I know that was the case. I didn't believe that there was anything else looking after me. I didn't believe that there was anything that was gonna take care of me when I was having a really hard time and I tried to control everything. And so, this is for all you control freaks out there, when you release attachment, you will find a freedom and you will find that the universe has your back when you begin to let go of all these attachments. And that might mean attachments in expecting someone to behave a certain way when they don't, and that causes you inner frustration, and that puts a dampener on your relationships, or with your finances, you feel like you perhaps should be doing better, but you're not. So you've got to own the place of where you are, saying, I am where I am, and things can still change rather than I should be doing better right now. I had a client who was thinking exactly that, and their challenge was they were already succeeding massively in the eyes of most people, but in the top 1%, it wasn't good enough. So you really have to ask that question why do we put so much pressure on ourselves? Because we have to live up to an expectation, and that expectation can cause us heaviness, it can cause a stuck energy, which will affect and spill out into other areas of our lives. There's a wonderful thing that I really noticed when I learned to let go of the need to control absolutely everything, and the need to control comes from a fear, essentially. And yes, we need to control certain things, but ultimately we can't control everything. And I wanted to put this idea to the test. It decluttered my entire wardrobe, and I left about 20% of my clothing, and I remember just I had so many clothes, and I decided I want some new clothes, and I'm just not satisfied with the ones I have, or at least I've had them for ages. And I wanted more colour, I wanted new, and sometimes we want that, and we can't have new in our life, we can't have new experiences and new things and new thoughts and make new money if we're constantly digging up the past, if we're constantly dissatisfied with what we have, you have to make room for it. So I followed this universal principle: nature abhors a vacuum. Meaning, when you create space, meaning when you simplify your life, more can flow in, and more can flow in from channels you don't even know yet. So I put this idea to the test. I put this universal principle to the test, and I decluttered 80% of my wardrobe, and I kept just my favorite items and some of my heritage pieces, 20 p 20% left. And I had like literally about one or two t-shirts, one pair of jeans, a few jackets, and uh and a few shirts and a couple of shoes, and that was it. Just kept it super simple. And what happened next was amazing because in short, when I began to simplify and declutter my environment, what happened was is that I entered a competition. I was inspired to enter a competition on Instagram for one of my favorite brands. And when I entered that competition, I had to post a picture and tag it in. And when I did, I was DM'd directly saying, Well, you really like your picture. Would you mind if we shortlisted it for the competition? And if you were to win, you would win thousands of pounds worth of clothes and you'd be in our GQ spread. And this sounded all very exciting, but it was still a pie in the sky. But nonetheless, I entered and I knew exactly what I wanted for the picture. And if you've come across this podcast and you're new to it, it is the actual picture of this podcast that I had taken. And I knew that I wanted it to be three layers sand, sky, and me, and really simple to the eye, simplify. And lo and behold, about two or three months later, long story short, I won that competition out of everybody, and I won thousands of pounds worth of clothes, and I was in that GQ spread, and I was so grateful, so grateful for those beautiful clothes after all the ones that I'd taken out and given to charity, like thousands of pounds worth of clothes. And here I was winning thousands of pounds worth of new clothes that I was absolutely thrilled with, and that is a real life experience of simplifying my wardrobe. So I wanted to take this and apply it to all areas of my life. So I'm not asking you to completely change your wardrobe and strip it bare, but this story is just testament to say that when you follow this principle, something new will come to you because nature naturally wants to abhor a vacuum. So ask yourself where can you simplify and notice what will happen next is nothing short of a miracle because energy needs something to flow to, and when you create space, the energy will flow to that space with something new. We've talked about decluttering and attracting new clothes just by simplifying the wardrobe. But in truth, did I have attachment to those clothes? I didn't have attachment to them, which is why I let them go. So I'm gonna give you a little question here. What can you release attachment to this week? It doesn't have to be something physical like clothes, but could you release attachment to the shoulds in your life? Could you release attachment to I should be doing better, I should have been further along by now? Could you release any negative attachments this week? So I'm gonna ask you to reflect on this question. What attachments could you release this week? What habit or relationship or mindset or thinking that is keeping you small or not helping you get where you want to be? Where could you release that negative mindset? And where could you release any victimized mindset? Because as soon as you begin to release those thoughts, you create a new story, a new trajectory. And as soon as you release attachment to anything holding you back, anything heavy, anything negative, you become free. And then naturally, energy will find you and you'll feel a lightness in your being, you'll feel a lightness in your shoulders. Have you ever walked around and feel like you've got really heavy shoulders? That's because you're holding a lot of emotional weight. And as soon as we release that emotional weight, you feel light, you've got a spring in your step, and often people ask, What are you doing? And the truth is you're just lighter, and you become lighter and you become happier and you become freer in your body and in all your interactions when you don't feel weighed down by certain things, people, stories, attachments, etc. This will all vaporize, but it has to come from you first. You have to think, where could I release any negative attachments this week? So ask yourself, is that possible? And the answer is yes. But you have to release the story of I'm not getting it yet, or I don't have that yet. Release that story and replace it with, I'm on my way. I'm good and I'm on my way. This means there's momentum in this story rather than it should be here now and it isn't. That is always a self-defeating conversation that we have with ourselves. I know because that's been me. Now, if you're ready to amplify your energy, then you've got to just learn how to simplify your health. This was the first thing that I had to learn how to master, my health and my well-being, because I knew everything would flow from that. If I was healthy, then I could have greater experiences. If I was healthy, then I could learn how to attract more money. And by having a near-death experience, it's almost as if life nearly stopped. And when you get a new lease of life, it's because I need to learn how to manage my life better. And if I want to learn how to manage my life better, then I have to learn how to manage my health better. The first thing that I did was ask myself this question, which is what one simple thing could I add to my life that I know for sure will make it better that I'm not doing now. And that simple thing was learning how to meditate. I didn't know anything that was really good for me. So the first thing I did was I understood that the mind helped direct the body. And so I learned how to meditate and it was inspired to do that because I was at a place where my mind was chaotic, crazy, negative, up and down, like a yo yo. I didn't know if I was high or low, or if I was, it was artificial, it was intoxicated. So when I learned how to meditate, then my nervous system began to calm down, and that's when little magic began to happen. That's when I began to see myself having way more energy, feeling more focused, feeling more clear-minded. Now I could look at foods wisely and choose, is that good for me? And I start to learn about foods. I started to learn about what was good for me and what wasn't good for me. But it all just started. What one thing can I do that is simple? You know what? I committed to that. Two weeks, 20 minutes in the morning, 20 minutes in the evening, just sitting there in silence. And whether you have a guided meditation or not, that one thing was the simple thing I knew I could add to my life. As I continued, the things that weren't healthy begin to fall by the wayside. So ask yourself, what one simple thing could you do? It might mean, could I go to the gym today? Or every day, can I go five times a week? Can I just go at the same time every day and do 40 minutes every day and take the weekend off? That's something you could do. Or could you start something new? Could you say, I'm gonna go and do Pilates every day because I like that, or I'm gonna start running. You know, it doesn't have to be meditation, but it could be something that you're drawn to that you know is good for you, but you're not doing. Because when you do one simple thing and add it to your life, that begins to shift and compound over time. And that is why I believe that I have 22 years of great health and wellness, is because I've just compounded all those days of meditation, all those workouts, all that good food. There's a correlation between how good you feel and how healthy you are. And the more endorphins you have and feel good chemicals, and meditation helps you release all those good chemicals inside of your body. Naturally, you want to maintain them, you want to manage them. It's a bit like when you start making a lot of money, you want to keep making a lot of money. But if you're not used to it yet, you are willing to just stay small. And it's the same with your energy. As soon as you start having plenty of energy, you notice that is your new baseline. And if your baseline is really low at the moment, it's only because you haven't introduced something simple yet. With your health, ask yourself, what one thing could I do that's super simple that I know would be good for my health? And I guarantee you you're gonna see results. So if it's finances that you want to simplify because you feel the pressure, maybe you just need to ask this question where can I simplify in my current commitments? If I simplify my current commitments, it might be subscriptions, it might be your rent is too high, could you find a place that's cheaper? I know because I had to do this, and when I did this, I noticed that within a really short amount of time I started attracting amazing income because I moved to a place that allowed me to get back into balance again. So it's really important when it comes to finances. Ask yourself, where can I reduce my commitments? Where can I let go of commitments? Remember, we were saying releasing attachments earlier. When you reduce any pressure in your life, your nervous system is going to relax. What you're really seeking in your finances more than anything is a state of peace and a state of calm, because that is when the magnetic attraction for you being in the right place for perhaps a new job, for you attracting new customers and new clients, if you're feeling the pressure, then you're not going to be in the most attractive, energetic state to be open and receptive to new opportunities when they present themselves. You might be a bit closed because you're still stressed out. Someone who's stressed is not attractive. Just remember what you're really trying to move towards is freedom and mental clarity. So when you ask yourself a question, would this that I'm about to do give me peace, yes or no? And if it doesn't give you peace, don't do it. It's a really simple formula. And if you're with a partner and you're feeling financial challenged, it's harder to be by yourself trying to figure it out than it is to be a team and in unity. Because when you're together as a team, you can feel powerful because you can find solutions together. But when it's by yourself, it can feel a very lonely place. So just really ask yourself what choice would give me peace and mental clarity? And then act on it. In order to simplify relationships to find that happiness, you really just have to add a couple of things into your life in relationships that a lot of people overlook. Can you find a way to just sit and listen to your partner, even if it's just 10 minutes? Because that is so healing. Sometimes the biggest challenges we have are just easily resolved by someone just listening to us for 10 minutes. And if we have our partner listen to us for 10 minutes without trying to give solutions, without trying to fix us, it can be very healing, especially for the female. And so, guys, if you want to ask your partner if there's something I can do, let me try and help. But if not, I'm just here to listen. In order to simplify your relationships, we've got to release expectations of how we think people should be. We should release expectations that they should do what we think they should do, and we can try to simplify by keeping your word. Do what you say you're gonna do. If you say it, do it. Otherwise, don't say it. Because when your word and your actions are in alignment, you become a force in the universe. That's why it's very powerful when you hear people like Muhammad Ali or someone in sports have said, Oh, I'm gonna do this at that time, and they actually do it, it's because their levels of integrity are so strong, mixed with positive emotion. And when we do that in our own lives, when we do what we say we're gonna do, oh, I'm gonna pick the kids up at that time and you do it, or I'm gonna pick you up or drop that off and you do it. This builds trust. So when we do what we say we're gonna do, which is really simple but difficult to do, you'll notice that you become far more happier as a human being because you begin to trust yourself and others begin to trust you. That is a first point of greater happiness, being someone that someone can rely on. And the last thing you can do that is really simple to build more beautiful relationships is just where can I appreciate my partner? And sometimes it's great just at the end of the day, if you're in a partnership. Can you approach say all the things you appreciate about them? Five, ten things. I appreciate this, that that you did this today, I appreciate the way you handle that situation, and just by these simple things, you'll notice your relationships improve. Of course, there's so many other areas, but listening is healing, appreciating is healing, and keeping your word builds trust. And in relationships, the reason why they're called relationships is because we are in relationship to them, and when we keep our values really strong and we do our best to meet each other's needs, our lives improve so significantly. So, what different approach could you try this week? Could you try and listen? Could you try the appreciation game at the end of the day? And could you try and do what you say you're gonna do? All of these things take a little time to build into a habit, but ask yourself which one am I gonna commit to? Because when you commit to simplifying your life, notice what happens next. And just remember this it is not your job to make other people happy, it's your job to keep yourself happy. And as soon as you find your own happy groove, then other people come like a magnet towards you. But it's not your job to fix other people, it's your job to try and get yourself in the best feeling place every day. Now it's not always easy, none of the simplification of anything is really easy, but the idea is easy. So you've got to be thinking like this. If somebody is calm, you're gonna be far more receptive to that person if you're having a challenging time that you feel like they're a safe space. But if they're not calm, it's a chaotic place. It's the same in our relationships. We need to cultivate our calm, our own happy space, so that when other people are having their own challenges, we are calm. And wouldn't you like that the same if you were having a tough time that someone else that you love is calm when you don't feel calm? That feels a safe space to go to. We need to be that for one another. So here are some daily practices you can begin to apply to start. Simplifying your life for greater love, for greater happiness, for greater wealth. The practices you can begin to do are walking more in nature, very effective, especially when you're stressed out. Watching TV shows that make you laugh in the evening, 20-minute hit will really reset your nervous system. It's deep breathing, praying together, meditation, spending more time outdoors, getting creative, meaning practice painting, sewing, dancing, knitting, making music, whatever it is. As soon as you begin to do that, you reset your nervous system because creativity produces personal satisfaction. All of these things help you reset your energy that release stress and create more happiness and well-being. So which one of those activities do you think you could try? Because as soon as you begin to apply, you get feedback. And when you sleep better and you feel good, and tomorrow is even better than today, you're going to feel empowered and you're going to want to do it again tomorrow. So, in truth, when you simplify your life and you try and simplify areas that are the ones that are weighing you down, what you're going to notice is it's going to free up way more energy, and you're going to feel a lot happier, and you're going to notice things flowing more freely in your life. Relationships will just suddenly feel better. Your health, you'll have more energy, and in your finances, you'll feel more relaxed because you're making good choices. Thanks for listening. And until the next episode, I wish you a wonderful week ahead and green lights all the way. Thank you for listening. And if this resonated, share it with someone who's ready for more. Keep creating space, and I'll see you on the next episode.
