59: Embody Your Pleasure to Grow Your Business
How would your business shift if you were to bring more pleasure in? Pleasure is often misunderstood when it comes to business. We may think it's something that detracts from our productivity. But when you deliberately cultivate pleasure, you build a business that feeds your soul and allows you to feel alive in your work. That aliveness flows into everything you create.
In this episode, we're diving into the role of pleasure in your business. I share how I had to dismantle my own internal beliefs about the legitimacy and value of pleasure and how feminine embodiment has helped me. When you're disconnected from your body, you're also disconnected from your pleasure. And it's through the body that we access creativity, intuition, and magnetism in business which are the ingredients that help our businesses grow.
What You Will Learn in This Episode:
- How bringing pleasure into your business supports your nervous system and keeps you out of survival mode.
- The cultural beliefs that make us put pleasure last and how to rewrite that story.
- Practical ways to bring more pleasure into your daily business tasks and routines.
Key Takeaways:
- Pleasure is something you cultivate deliberately; it's not something that happens on its own.
- The more you operate from your head, the more you lose access to your body's wisdom and your natural magnetism.
- Small acts of pleasure throughout your workday reconnect you to creativity, intuition, and aliveness.

Tertia [00:00:00]:
What does the word pleasure evoke in you when I say bring pleasure to your work? What thoughts, sensations, ideas and meanings do you give? That pleasure is one of those things that is so misunderstood in the context of work. And if you can cultivate and and bring more pleasure to your everyday life and to your business, it is going to be so supportive to you having a business that feeds your soul and where you feel alive. And that aliveness, that creativity, that expression will flow out in everything that you do. And that's what we're diving into in today's episode. Welcome to Beyond Burnout for Driven Women. I'm Tertia. And this is where we go from burnout to abundance. And we take your nervous system along for the ride. If you are doing all the right things, but you are not seeing the results, you are in the right place. Here we explore embodiment nervous system work and how to be magnetic in business. We without going into overdrive or burning yourself out, we are continuing with the miniseries. I'm going to link the previous three episodes for you in the show Notes, if you haven't listened to that. And this mini series is all about rebuilding your business in an embodied way. So if you have found yourself in a season where you are doing all of the right things, but the money that you are making doesn't match the effort and you are spinning around in circles. You feel yourself burning out in frustration. You're wondering, why are you doing this? Is this all worth it? This series is going to support you. So today we're talking about pleasure. And this is the third thing that I have brought into my business. And perhaps this is a good place for me to define what I see as pleasure. I'm not talking about sexual pleasure here, although it could be. But the pleasure that I'm referring to is this feeling of being sensually alive. It's this feeling of engaging with things in a way that brings you joy. Pleasure is about our own innate sense of vitality. It's the energy that fuels us from, from the inside. And this is something that we need to cultivate deliberately. Our nervous systems really have two settings. And the first setting is that of survive and the other setting is that of thrive. Right? So in survive, this is when our nervous system gets activated. And in thrive, this is when we are more in a receptive, pleasure receiving kind of mode. What I noticed in my own journey of growing my business is the more panicky I started feeling, the more strategically I started thinking. And the more I try to make this business work, the more Time I spent behind my laptop with my nose deep into research, the less pleasure and joy I experienced. I lost inspiration. Things started feeling like a slog. And I don't know about you, but that is not how I want to feel in my business. I dismantled so many internal beliefs around my right to experience pleasure, the legitimacy of experiencing pleasure, and the value of experiencing pleasure during my feminine embodiment coaching training. And this is what I learned about pleasure. They are such common themes that we share as women. And a lot of it has to do with this hyper masculine world that we live in. A lot of it has to do with the patriarchal context that we are all brought up in. And for many of us, we have conversations and ideas around pleasure that says pleasure is off limits, pleasure is frivolous, pleasure has no value, pleasure gets in the way of productivity. And pleasure is something that should only be done at the very end. We can't put pleasure first. Pleasure comes only when everything else is done and taken care of. So perhaps just pause here for a moment and think about how you perceive pleasure. What is your idea around pleasure? What thoughts and meanings do you give to pleasure? And how much pleasure are you experiencing in your business? Because we live in, as I said, this hyper masculine world and we have these beliefs around what pleasure is. So many of us may also be in the situation that I found myself in where the more stressed out you are, the more you try and move your business forward from the level of your mind, the more you try and throw every kind of strategy against the wall, the further you move away from your pleasure. When your energy gets pulled up into the top of your head, that is all about survival, right? You are looking forward, you are focusing your attention outwards and you disconnected from the wisdom of your body. And it is through our bodies that we experience pleasure. So if you are not in your body, if you don't have access to the sensations and the feelings in your body because you floating around in your head, then you are also not able to access pleasure. And the best way to bring pleasure into your everyday life is to use your senses. Because our senses are directly connected to our body and to the feelings in our body, you can use your senses to bring your awareness into your body, which gives you access to feelings and sensations of pleasure. And this is a practice, it's a continuous practice. And the more you practice deliberately feeling being pleasure, the easier it becomes. It's a muscle that you work out. The things that bring you pleasure might potentially look different to the things that bring me pleasure. And again, this is the wisdom of our own inner knowing. So I'm going to give you your homework assignment already now. And what I invite you to do is to ask yourself with every task that you do, especially those tasks that you. You don't really enjoy so much, or the things that feel like a bit of an effort, even with those, you can ask, how can I make this experience more pleasurable? What can I do to make this feel better? So this could look like doing something pleasurable before you start the task and then doing something pleasurable after you've done the task. You could make time in your day for a midday walk. To me, that is such an act of pleasure. It's a rebellious act of pleasure, because in work hours, I go for a walk. And something else that I do, for example, which gives me so much pleasure, is I often drive out to our local park and I record my podcast episodes sitting in my car. At the park. I would sit outside, but then the sound would be really terrible. So I sit inside my car, but I'm looking over at the park and I'm seeing the fountains, and I have these beautiful oak trees all around me that are. They're gigantic. They're very old. And just being in that energy or being in the energy of that space, and it gives me so much joy to record my podcast episodes in that way. You might want to stop. If you are in the habit of eating at your desk, eating lunch at your desk, you might want to stop and go and watch some Netflix or you. Or read a fiction book or do something nice, sit outside in the sun. So these are just small little acts of how can we bring more delight, how can we bring more joy, how can we bring more ease into our day? And as I said, this is a deliberate cultivation. And what you'll find is the more you experience the ease and the pleasure, for lack of a better word, the pleasure that comes from cultivating deliberate pleasure and joy and aliveness in your business in this way is when. When that goes missing, when you start moving too much in your head again, you begin to miss that. So it's a beautiful anchor point. And when we are experiencing pleasure, our nervous system gets the message that we are safe and that everything is okay in our world right now. And this is when you access your intuition. This is when you access your creativity and your inspiration and your magnetism. So all of these feminine gifts that live in us, we have access to that when we are connected into our bodies. And pleasure is the portal that get us there, because Pleasure is what puts us in a state of receptivity, of receiving, and then we can begin to give from our own overflow. If this has tickled your taste buds, you need to get in on my free Embodied Entrepreneur masterclass that's happening in a few days.
