Carol Beringer

Carol Beringer's Amazing Movement Podcast | Season 2, Ep. 4: Studio Exercises - Foam Roller for Glutes (1.5 min)

Wake up your glutes and relieve lower body discomfort in just 90 seconds! In this quick studio session, Carol addresses "gluteal amnesia" - a syndrome that causes tightness and discomfort throughout your lower body. Using a simple foam roller (she recommends the softer blue-coated ones over the punitive black versions), Carol demonstrates an easy technique you can do at home anytime.

This brief but effective exercise loosens up your sitting bones and reactivates muscles that have gone dormant from sitting. Perfect for morning routines or anytime you're feeling tight. Simple, fast, and exactly the kind of unremarkable movement with remarkable benefits Carol is known for.

Carol Beringer:

Hi, welcome back to the Amazing Movement Podcast. I'm Carol Beringer, and today we're at my studio in wing, Pennsylvania. And if you ever have any questions, just email me@hellocarolberinger.com and I'll get back to you today. Almost everyone owns a foam roller and I really recommend the blue coated ones. I know that black ones are available out there, but it's a very hard surface in my field, a little punitive. But today we're just going to do something because we have what? There's a syndrome called gluteal amnesia, and it causes a lot of discomfort in the low body. So this is just something you can do briefly at home that's a lot of fun. So you're going to sit right on your roller, you're just going to perch on it. And I had long arms, so I make a fist and just put my hands down here.

If you have shorter arms, you can use a yoga block or something to lift you up a little, just so you're comfortable and sitting fairly erect. And just roll perch on your sitting bones and just roll them back and forth over the edge. And for about 30 seconds, I'm not going to take all your time to do all 30 seconds with you today, but I usually just go at this nice pace for an account for 15, and then shift your knees over to one edge so that you go over that sitting bone, and again, 30 seconds. And then over to the other side for 30 seconds and then back to center. And seriously, when you stand up and get going, you'll just feel so much more loosened up. So I turn into it in the morning, but you can do it time of day, anytime you're feeling just a little tight. So have the best week.
