Welcome And Rebirth Arc Setup
SPEAKER_02Howdy howdy. Welcome back to the Awaken Heart, a podcast for healing women. I'm Audan, licensed professional counselor, fellow, late diagnosed neurodivergent trauma experience woman. And this is the bonus episode that pairs with Wednesday's episode on how to be solved without losing your power after sexual trauma. This is the first bonus episode in the Rebirth arc. We are in season two of The Awakened Heart, which is all about healing from sexual trauma. If this is your starting point, I will link in the show notes the first episode of this season of sexual healing after sexual trauma, which is the numb season. So we went through the numb arc, the rage arc, and now we're in the rebirth arc. Any place is a good place to spot start wherever you're at, depending on what speaks to you. But if you want to go back and learn about the numb season, learn about the rage season, I will link the first episode of the season for numb, and then I will link the first episode of the rage arc. So you can start on the rage arc if that's where you want to start. But yes, today we're meeting our first goddess of the rebirth season. Her name is Bridget. And there's plenty of ways to pronounce her name, depending on what context or in what way it's being used. But for me and how difficult it is for me to pronounce things, I stuck with Bridget.
SPEAKER_01And that's what Google sounded like when I asked to pronounce it. Or YouTube. I think I did YouTube videos.
SPEAKER_02Okay. And when I learned about her, like when I really learned about her, I felt something really click into place because Bridget is everything we've been talking about in one ancient powerful figure. She is soft and fierce. She is the healer and the creator. She is the gentle tending flame and the forge fire that transforms metal. She is the answer to the question we asked in Wednesday's episode: How do I be solved without losing my power? Bridget has done this, has been doing this for thousands of years. Before we go further, right? Let me do a caveat. I am not pushing any sort of form of ideology, religion, belief. These are just things in the world that help me make sense of my experience that I'm sharing with you. There's no right or wrong way to do any of this. For anyone with a Christian background, or if you feel like uncertain about goddess work, Bridget was so beloved in ancient Ireland that when Christianity arrived, she she wasn't erased. She was transformed into Saint Bridget of Kildar, one of the patron saints of Ireland. And her sacred flame, her healing wells, her poetry and creativity, that's what she's all about. And that all carried forward into the Christian Saint Bridget. So if you feel more aligned with Saint Bridget than the goddess, that's completely valid. Both carry the same essential energy, same flame. And for anyone who is brand new to this, you've never thought about goddesses or mythology or any of this, welcome. I'm new to this too. I'm learning. It's something that I've always kind of been curious about. But the more I heal, the more I learn, the more
Who Bridget Is And Why Her
SPEAKER_02I have capacity to take on more new information. The goddesses, the mythology, they kind of show themselves to me and I get to learn about them and read about them. It's really fun. You don't need to believe in any specific thing to find meaning here. Bridget is an archetype. She is a mirror, a story that has survived for thousands of years because it describes something true about human experience. Bridget comes from ancient Celtic Ireland. She is one of the most beloved figures in the entire Celtic mythological tradition. And she survived the arrival of Christianity, Christianity, because she was so woven into the fabric of Irish life that she just couldn't disappear. She's considered a triple goddess, meaning she holds three distinct domains. One is the healer, the goddess of sacred wells, of medicine, of restoration. She's the one who tends to the wounded and gets them back whole. Then the second part of her is the poet. She's the goddess of inspiration, creativity, language, and storytelling, the one who gives is like gives voice to what's true, the one who sees what others miss and name. Well I that sounded that didn't sit well. She's the one who sees what others miss and names it. And then the third part of her, her third domain, is the Smith. She's the goddess of fire, craft, and transformation, the one who works with heat to turn raw material into something new, the one who forges ahead despite the intensity. Three flames, one goddess, all held at the same time. And what I want to say is that she never had to choose between one of them. She never had to just be the soft healer or the fierce smith. She was always all three at the same time. Always. That's the model because that's what's possible. Bridget is most associated with festival that's held on the first of February, which is a signal of the first stirring of spring on the Celtic calendar. It's called Mbok. It's the ground is still frozen, the trees are still bare, but underneath the earth, the seeds are beginning to move. Light is returning, maybe just barely. Things are starting to come back to life after the long dark winter. So embalk is the festival of potential, of what's coming, of the first breath. Get it? The rebirth season? Sound familiar? Because that's exactly where we are now. To honor her in Ireland, first at her sacred site, and later at St. Bridget's Monastery, a flame was kept burning continuously forever. It's still lit, it's still there. Someone tends to it. It first began to be tended by priestess, then by nuns. It's never allowed to go out. This internal flame is the heart of Bridget's mythology, and it carries a teaching that is directly relevant to everything we've talked about in the main episode on Wednesday. In Rage Season, we talked about sacred rage as fire, the consuming, transformative, all-encompassing fire that burns down what no longer serves us.
The Triple Goddess Healer Poet Smith
SPEAKER_02That fire was necessary. It did its work. But a fire that burns at maximum intensity forever doesn't transform, it destroys. It burns everything, including the things worth keeping, including you. Bridget's flame is different. It's not the consuming fire, it's the tended fire. It burns sustainably, continuously. It's fed what it needs. It's protected from what could extinguish it. It's not raging. It's present, consistent, warm fire. Your nervous system is Bridget's flame. Your healing practice is the tending. You don't have to be on fire every moment. You don't have, you just have to keep the flame alive carefully with intention. So it's still burning years from now. Although embulk falls on February 1st and there's a festival for it, Bridget's energy is accessible in every season. Anytime you feel the first stirring of something new after a period of darkness, after a hard week, after a grief wave, after a shutdown. That's your personal embulk. That's Bridget. You don't have to wait for February. Every morning you choose to tin your flame instead of letting it go out is in bulk. So I want to identify and break down like each flame. Each domain Bridget has. And then I want to provide some practice, practical steps, right? So before we get to the practical steps, I want to help you figure out which domain you need the most. Flame, poet, smith, healing, poet, smith. Sorry. They're all flames. So these are some questions to ask yourself. There's no wrong answer. Just answer them honestly. And it's okay to need all three. It's okay to need just one. And it's okay to need two, wherever you're at. So you might need the healing flame most if you're exhausted, depleted, and running on fumes. If you've been giving to others and haven't replenished yourself, right? If you're not filling up your own cup, if you're pushing yourself back to the back burner as far back as possible to save everyone else. Maybe your body feels tired, tight, or unwell. Maybe you've been in push-through it mode for too long, just push through, just keep going. Maybe you're still tending wounds that haven't fully closed. Maybe rest feels impossible but desperately needed. Or maybe something is asking to be acknowledged and tended. If any of those resonate with you, that's the healing flame you want to go after. For the poet's flame, you might need the poet's flame if you have something inside that needs to come out but hasn't found its form yet. For me, it was this podcast. This is my poet's flame. You might need the poet's flame most if you've been silent when you needed to speak. Staying small, being palatable, being just a pretty little lady and not making anyone uncomfortable.
SPEAKER_00Maybe your creativity feels blocked or dormant.
SPEAKER_02Maybe you struggle to name what you're experiencing. Maybe something true needs to be said and you're the one to say it. Maybe it's time to vocalize, no longer enable, no longer sit back and just watch on the sidelines, but stand up and have a voice about it. Share the truth. Maybe you need the poet's flame most if you if like your voice feels small or rusty or like it belongs to someone else.
Imbolc And The Eternal Flame
SPEAKER_02And maybe you just need to tell your story and don't know where to start. All those, if any of that resonates with you, then also use the poet's flame. And you might need the Smith's flame most if you're in the middle of building something and it's getting harder. If you need to transform something, a pattern, a relationship, a belief, a habit. Maybe you're forging ahead through difficulty and need to remember that the heat is part of the process.
SPEAKER_00Maybe something needs to be made from what the rage revealed. Maybe you're doing the work of creating the life you want and it's heavy.
SPEAKER_02Maybe you need the reminder that walking through fire doesn't mean you're being destroyed. It means you're being shaped. So if any of those resonated, that's the Smith's flame. The healing flame is about tending, returning, and restoring. So let's talk about some practices for the healing frame. For those of us who learn to heal ourselves alone, who've been trying to tend our own wounds since childhood, this flame is deeply personal. You've been your own healer for a long stinking time. And that's remarkable. And it also means you know, maybe better than anyone, what the healing work actually requires. So practice one for the healing flame. This is about a daily practice, takes about five or 10 minutes. I like to call this the healing well visit. Bridget's healing wells were placed, were like places people returned to again and again. It wasn't just like a one-time visit, not just when things were bad, but regularly. Your healing well is any practice that restores you. For different people, it's different things. For you, it might be your morning ritual, a yoga practice, somatic work, time near water. Just rest. The practice isn't the thing itself, it's the returning. Committing to going back to what restores you before you're completely empty, before you've been running on fumes for weeks. So, healing well, visit. This is what you ask yourself. These are the daily questions you would ask yourself. So if you need to get something out, write it on, notebook, notepad, anything on your phone. These are the three questions to ask yourself. Sorry, I lost my train of thought. First question What does my healing well look like today?
SPEAKER_00What does my healing well look like today? Am I visiting it regularly or only in crisis?
SPEAKER_02Am I only tending to myself when I'm in crisis, burnt out, overwhelmed, too much? Or am I tending to it throughout the day so that it doesn't get too loud or too much? And last question to ask yourself in this practice is what do I need to pour back into myself today? How do I need to show up for me today? What do I need? Answer it honestly and do your best to give that to yourself. Practice two. Second practice. For the wound that's still open. Bridget heals through tending, not through rushing. She doesn't demand that wounds be closed before they're ready. So I want
Choosing The Flame You Need
SPEAKER_02you to sit with this question. What wound am I still tending? Not what wound should be healed by now. What wound is actually honestly still open? Write it, name it, don't minimize it or rush to be like, but I've made so much progress. Don't don't diminish it. Just write it out, name it. Then ask yourself, what does this wound need today? Not forever, not always, just for today. Sometimes the answer is to be acknowledged, to be witnessed, to be named as still present. Sometimes the answer is a specific practice or specific support. Give it what it needs today. Last practice for the healing plane. Your body has been caring so much for so long. A simple somatic healing practice that you can do to treat your body as the healing well is to lie down or sit comfortably.
SPEAKER_00Put one hand on your heart and put one hand on your belly. Breathe slowly into your hands.
SPEAKER_02If the breath is hard to access at that moment, then take a moment to ground yourself. Look around the room, name some things you see, name some colors, name some objects, get into the present moment, then try to revisit the breath. And once you get that breath online, say out loud or in your mind, I am tending this body with care. This body is sacred. I am tending this body with care. This body is sacred.
SPEAKER_00And just lay there for as long as you need. Sit there for as long as you need.
SPEAKER_02Some journaling prompts for the healing flame. I've got a couple, I've got a few, so get ready to pause, rewind. I'll try to talk slowly, but not take up too much time because I think this is a lengthy episode. Journal prompts. Here we go. What have I been healing myself from since childhood?
SPEAKER_00What have I been healing myself from since childhood? What does my body need from me right now?
SPEAKER_02What does my body need from me right now? And if you're not in tune with your body, if that answer is like, I don't know, I don't know what my body's saying, I can't hear it. I'm so dissociated from my body, I just can't handle it. That's data. That's not an excuse. That's not the absolute answer and end-all, be all answer. It is data to let you know that it is time to get in tune with your body. So if your answer is, I don't know, I can't, I never hear my body, my body and me aren't in tune with each other, then your answer for what does my body need for me right now is a constant check-in. Set some alarms, like three to five alarms for the day, that are labeled, how do I feel? How are my shoulders? How are my jaws? Are my teeth clenched together? Heck, where's my tongue at? Is
Healing Flame Practices And Prompts
SPEAKER_02my tongue pressed up against the roof or my mouth or the back of my teeth really hard? Or is it relaxed? So the three things that are really helpful for starting getting in tune with your body is relaxing your shoulders. So checking in with your shoulders, seeing if they're in your ears or hiked up at all, relaxing your jaws, making sure you're not clenching your teeth, and parking the tongue. Relax the tongue down. Do not let it press hard against the roof of the mouth or the back of the teeth. Another question is where am I the healer for others, but not for myself? Where am I the healer for others, but not for myself? That's a good question, isn't it? And what would Bridget's healing well look like in my daily life? What would Bridget's healing well look like in my daily life? What does tending to your fire, to your flame of healing look like every day? On my Finch app, there's a question that it's been asking me, and I can't remember how I got it on there. I think it's my weekly goal, but I'd like to have it forever. But it says something along the lines of like, what is one thing you can do today that is soothing or regulating for you? And that's that's what this question is. What would Bridget's healing will look like in my daily life? What is one thing you can do daily? It can be different every day. But what is one thing you can promise to do daily? That is the healing will. That is checking in with yourself, that is being good with yourself, that is treating yourself right, that is healing yourself just as much as you're trying to heal others. Moving on to the poet's flame because it's about voice, truth, naming what's real, giving form to what's been formless, really. In the Celtic tradition, poets held enormous power. They were the keepers of history, the namers of truth. The word for poetry comes from a root meaning to see. Poets were seers. Every time you name your experience, whether it's in therapy, journaling, in conversations with the safe person, you are doing the poet's work. You are a seer. You see what others miss. You name it, and that is sacred work. So naming things that others miss, naming the truths, saying how things are, not just sugarcoated or bypassing the truth to make other people comfortable, but really being truthful and honest about your experiences and how things are going. So here's some practices. Practice one, the daily truth. Every day, write or say out loud one true thing. One thing that's real right now that you might normally keep quiet or minimize. It can be something small like I'm tired today and I don't want to pretend I'm not. And it can be large. I'm still angry about something I thought I'd forgiven. And it can even be tender. I'm proud of something I did and I want to acknowledge it. One true thing daily.
SPEAKER_00That's the poet's practice.
SPEAKER_02Next up is the story you haven't told. The poet's flame illuminates what's been in the dark. Is there a story or a part of a story that lives in you and hasn't found voice yet? A piece of your experience that's never been spoken out loud? Write it. You don't have to share it. You don't have to polish it. You just have to give it language. Give it a home outside of your body and mind. Name it. Name what happened. Name how you felt, name how it felt, name what it cost you, name what it gave you. The naming is the magic. The naming makes it real in a way that silence cannot. And for the days where writing feels too slow or too distant or just too distant or not accessible, girl, let me slow down. My brain is going and my mind, my mouth is a little behind today. So when journaling is not accessible, I want you to voice record. Record yourself on your phone, voice only. Open up the recorder, hit the record button, talk about what's true right now, what you're feeling, what you're working through, what you want to say that you haven't said yet. You don't have to keep the recording. You can delete it immediately after. The point is the speaking, the voice, the breath, the physical act of language being formed and released, released. Because your voice is sacred. Use it even when you're alone, even just for yourself. The next one, the last one that I'm going to recommend from The Poet's Flame is specific to anyone who is creating, writing, speaking their truth in any form. My podcast is Bridget's Poets Flame. Every episode is the poet's work. I am trying to talk about the things that others miss. I'm trying to name things in a way that makes it feel real for all of us. And I'm holding the light up as bright as I possibly can so others can see, so others can heal. That's not small. That's ancient. That's brigid. So if you have an outlook, if you have a platform, if there's something you want to share, find the platform that suits you. So some journaling prompts for the Poets Flying. Here we go. What truth have I been keeping quiet that wants to be spoken? What truth have I been keeping quiet that wants to be spoken? What is my creative voice trying to say right now? What is my creative voice trying to say right now? And it's okay if you don't have an answer for this, because sometimes we don't have this answer. Like I don't know how to be creative. I don't know what to do. I'm just coming out of being numb. I'm just coming out of being mad. I'm still fucking mad. And I want to be rebirthing. I want to be all new and lovely and roses and petals and all this stuff. But I still don't know how to create. I don't know what to do with it. That's not failure. That's not lacking. That is your nervous system still catching up with your mind. Give it time, give it space. Start small. I'm not saying start a podcast. Maybe write an outline. Maybe write a tagline. Maybe write some isms. Things I've learned thus far. How to be me, how to be a mom, how to be a daughter, how to not be a mom, how to be, things to avoid to be a bad mom. Anything, right? You can just write these, not for people to hear, not for people to see, but for you to
Poet Flame Finding Your Voice
SPEAKER_02express, create, and just essentially share your wisdom, be it a piece of paper, but you're sharing your wisdom. You're getting it out of your body, you're giving it a name, you're giving it a home, you're giving it life. What story lives in me that hasn't been told yet? What story lives in me that hasn't been told yet? This whole season is that my answer. My sexual trauma experiences is something I haven't shared. It's something I've kept close, only shared with some therapist, you know. It lived in me for a long time. And now it doesn't. I got it out. I feel better. It was very nice to go through this season and be able to share some of my experiences and to be vulnerable in a space that anybody could come at me and attack me or accuse me of something. I don't know. It's the internet, it's social. I'm I'm allowing criticism. And I bared a lot and shared a lot of my story, and I haven't heard shit, so that's good. I digress.
SPEAKER_01Okay.
SPEAKER_02Next up is the Smith's Flame. So some practices for the Smith. Smith's Flame. I got a hard time with S's. The Smith's Flame is one that resonated most deeply for me when I learned about Bridget. Because I have been forging ahead through my, like through fire my entire life. Walking through hell and coming out the other side with something made, something built, something that didn't exist before. I did that. That's the Smith's plane. It takes raw material, grief, rage, experience. And works. And you and I had to work at it until it became something new.
SPEAKER_00So it's the process. Things have to get hot first.
SPEAKER_02You work the smith works the material while it's hot. So you can't you can't shake cold metal. So like in the fire, that's when the shaping happens. It's hammered, it's shaped, it's refined, not rushed, not forced, but worked.
SPEAKER_00And then it cools into something new. The heat was necessary.
SPEAKER_02The fire of your history, the hell you walk through, that wasn't wasted. That was the forge. And what's being made from it is you, your work, your hobbies, your relationships, your life.
SPEAKER_00So practice one.
SPEAKER_02Taking some inventory. What have you already made from the fire of your experience? Write it all down, all of it. The career you built, the parenting repairs you made, the boundaries you forged, the healing you found, the community you created, the people you've helped, the life you've lived, the choices you've made, the things you've created, the people you've cared for. Every one of those things was made in the forge. The heat that created them was real and painful and necessary. Name what the fire has already made and honor it. Second practice is the current forging, right? What are you currently in the process of making? What's in the forge right now? What's being heated, what's being worked, what's not yet complete. Write about what you're building, what it will be when it's done, what the process is asking of you. Because you're not in the fire to be destroyed. You're in the fire to be shaped. There's a difference. The smith knows the difference.
SPEAKER_00The metal doesn't always know the difference, but the smith knows. Practice number three, the creation practice.
SPEAKER_02The smith makes things. When you're activated, overwhelmed, in the thick of something heavy, I want you to create. It doesn't have to be for anyone but yourself. I have clients who do collages. I have clients who do journaling and stream of consciousness, mind dumping. I have clients who take certain workout classes. I have clients who create their own routines for working out.
SPEAKER_00That's their creation.
SPEAKER_02Write, make a playlist, arrange flowers in a vase, cook something, organize a space, plant something, build something, make something beautiful from what you're in the middle of. This is the Smith's Flame channel.
SPEAKER_00Make that fire useful.
SPEAKER_02And then last practice is I'm forging reminder. When the heat of your current circumstances feels unbearable, when you're in the middle of something hard and you can't see the other side, I want you to repeat to yourself: please write this on a card, put it somewhere that you'll see it. But this is what you want to say to yourself. I am not being destroyed. I am being shaped for the greater good.
SPEAKER_00The heat is making something. I am Bridget's Smith. I forge ahead despite the heat. I
Smith Flame Forging Through Heat
SPEAKER_00am not being destroyed. I am being formed, shaped.
SPEAKER_02The heat is making something. I am Bridget Smith. I forge ahead despite the heat. And here's some journaling prompts for you. What has the fire of my life already made of me? What has the fire of my life already made of me? For me, this one's a different, this is like a both and and both, made me good and bad. Good because I will fiercely fight for any injustice. Good because I will do anything I can to help someone feel better if they're in my atmosphere, if they need my help, if they ask for help, if they're a client, I will do my best job to help them heal. But also it made me callous, it made me hard, it made me cold, it made walls up that kept goodness out because walls don't discriminate. They just keep out. Next question. What am I currently forging? What will it become? So what are you currently working on with the fire in the fire? What will it become? What would I build if I fully trusted the forge process? What would I build if I fully trusted the forge process? What would you build? If there were no consequences, if you could do anything and be anyone, what would you do? So just to give you a definition of forge, I don't think I did at the beginning, so I'm saying words that I didn't explain. So forge is to make or shape a metal object by heating it in a fire or furnace and beating or hammering it, creating something out of metal. All right. So those are some journaling prompts. Those are some practices to hone in on the three domains of Bridget. Now I want to put this layer in if you want. Like I did an episode on altar work, on having an altar, what an altar is, what it is not, what it can be, what it's not supposed to be, and how to do that. I can link that in the show notes as well. Trust me, it's nothing nefarious, it's nothing occult-y, it's nothing dark, magicky. It is a space, a physical space for you to come to to remind you of your goals, your blessings, your life, your love, your energy. But here's an alter component for Bridget. Colors that associate with Bridget are white or cream for new beginnings, red and orange for the fire, the flame, and green, the first growth returning after winter. So an essential Bridget piece could be a candle because the eternal eternal flame is Bridget's heart. One candle tended with intention. Light it when you begin your morning practice, blow it out when you're done. The lighting and the extinguishing is the ritual. If you want to go a little deeper, you can keep a candle specifically for Bridget that you only light during intentional practices. Give it an intention when you light it. Watch it while it burns. Let it be the anger. Bridget also is all about the healing wells. So a small bowl of water on your altar honors Bridget's healing wells. Fresh water, change regularly. You can set your intentions into it. You can use it to put some anointment on your wrist or forehead before healing work, or you can just let it sit there. And then the Smith component. The Smith makes things. So put something on your altar that you made, even something small. Honor the Smith's flame. A shell arrangement, a written intention in your own handwriting, a ribbon of any tradition, any paper or ribbon from any tradition or craft. And Bridget is associated with the first flowers of spring. So fresh flowers can honor her. Bright colors from the grocery store, from your local store will do just fine. And then please, excuse me, please put up your creative work. A page from your journal, a printed reminder, a printed article, a printed piece that is just for you. Notes for something you're building. Placing your creative work on your altar honors the poet's flame. It says, this is sacred. What I'm making is sacred. You are Bridget's heir. You've been
Simple Bridget Altar And Closing
SPEAKER_02healing yourself since childhood. That's the healing flame. You've been forging ahead through fire your entire life.
SPEAKER_00That's the Smith's flame.
SPEAKER_02And now that you're finding your voice, that you're healing after sexual trauma, you have your truth that you're naming out loud. That's the poet's flame. You have carried all three of these with you always.

SPEAKER_00We need to love ourselves.
SPEAKER_02In the next episode on Wednesday, we're going to talk about your nervous system, how it's not broken, how it's actually very, very freaking brilliant. And Bridget will be with us again.
SPEAKER_00The image of the tendon flame burning sustainably, never going out. Until next time, light a candle, tend your flame.
SPEAKER_02You are a healer. You are a poet. You are a smith. Take the gentlest possible care of your awakened heart. Take care, and I'll see you soon.
