SPEAKER_00:

Welcome to the Healing Mile Mini Edition. I'm Carrie, your walking bestie, and today we are walking for joy. These mini miles are short little resets to keep you moving, smiling, and feeling a little lighter no matter what kind of day you're having. So this one today is all about joy. Real, simple, everyday joy. The kind that doesn't wait for a big milestone or perfect day, the kind that shows up in the tiniest of moments if we're paying attention. So as we walk together today, I'm going to guide you into noticing those sparks of joy, creating some new ones, and maybe leaving this walk with a little more pep in your step. So let's go. Let's walk for some joy together. As you find your pace, let's start by softening your shoulders, letting your arms hang a little looser, and taking one big deep breath in. Hold it for just a second. And now exhale with a smile. Yep, actually smile as you breathe out. May feel a little silly, especially if you're walking where other people can see you, but hey, smiles are contagious. And here's the thing, science has shown that smiling, even when we don't totally feel like it, sends signals to your brain that tells it, hey, things are good, we're safe, we're happy. Even if you're not feeling it yet. Smiling helps your body shift into a more joyful state. So let's try it one more time. Deep breath in and let it out with a big old smile. Notice how your face softens. Notice how your body lightens just a little bit. Joy doesn't have to be some big lightning bolt. It can start with something this small. Just a smile. Now as you keep walking, start looking around with fresh eyes. Pretend you're seeing your surroundings for the very first time. What little things can you notice that bring joy? Maybe it's the sunlight glistening off a window, the sound of a bird chirping in the distance, the crunch of your footsteps on gravel or leaves. Or maybe it's just the simple fact that your body is carrying you forward step by step. Joy doesn't always shout, it often whispers. It's in the details we usually walk right past. So today, this walk is your invitation to pause and actually notice. Here's a practice I love. As you walk, pick three little joys to name out loud or in your head. For example, I'm grateful for the warmth of the sun. I'm grateful for the rhythm of my breath. I'm grateful for this moment just to walk. It doesn't have to be fancy, just honest. Naming joy as you see it is like flipping on a light switch inside your brain. Suddenly you realize joy is all around you. You just hadn't tuned into it yet. Now let's add a little movement to all this joy. Walking doesn't have to be so serious. You can bring some playfulness into it. It's okay. Try this. Loosen your arms and swing them a little wider. Maybe pick up your pace for a few steps like you're on your way to meet a friend or a family member you're super excited to see. Maybe even let your walk get a little bouncy, like you've got a really cool secret you're happy to be carrying. Remember when you were a kid and walking wasn't just walking, it was skipping, hopping, spinning, running forward just to run back. That's the energy I want you to channel for a moment here. It doesn't matter if anyone's watching, I promise. This is your walk, this is your joy practice. Give yourself permission to play. And hey, you might even inspire someone who's watching you. So even for just 30 seconds, let your walk feel fun. Let it feel free. That's joy in motion. Okay, now let's bring your mind into the mix. Because joy isn't only about what's around you, it's also about what you choose to focus on. Think of a joyful moment from your past week. It doesn't need to be huge. Maybe it was a laugh you shared with someone, or a delicious meal, or a moment of peace before bed. Whatever it is, as you walk, let yourself relive that moment for a few steps. Picture it in detail. The colors, the sounds, the feelings. Notice how your body responds. Do you smile? That's your nervous system remembering joy and strengthening your ability to return to it. Now let's add a joyful thought about the future. Imagine something simple you're looking forward to. Maybe a cozy evening, a cup of coffee tomorrow morning, or a weekend trip. See yourself there and allow yourself to feel a spark of joy right now, just from the thought. Past, present, future, all of it can hold joy if you choose to notice it. Remember, joy is already here. It doesn't need to be searched for, earned, or scheduled. It lives in every breath, every step, and every moment you choose to notice. Joy is smiling at a stranger. Joy is naming three things you love. Joy is letting yourself feel playful, even for 30 seconds on a random walk. So take one more deep breath in. And exhale with the biggest smile you've given all day. And let your body hold on to that lightness. And that's it. Your quick joy boost in under 10 minutes. I hope you're leaving this walk a little lighter, a little brighter, and a little more joyful than when you started. Keep this spark of joy with you as you head into the rest of your day. And come back to this walk anytime you need a boost. That's what these mini miles are here for, for when you need a quick walk to just feel more like yourself. If you know someone else in the same boat, send this episode their way. And be sure to follow the podcast so you know when a new episode drops. Thank you for joining me on this mini mile, and I'll see you on the path again soon.
