If you’ve been feeling stuck, heavy, overwhelmed, or not quite like yourself… this mini mile is for you.

In this short, guided walk, I’m sharing the honest story of how I used movement — tiny steps, slow walks, and gentle breath — to support my mental health and lift myself out of a foggy, exhausting season of life.

This episode is a calming companion for anyone struggling with low energy, emotional heaviness, depression symptoms, anxiety, or a deep sense of disconnection from themselves.

You’ll hear how walking for mental health became the first small step in my healing journey — helping me think more clearly, breathe more deeply, feel a little lighter, and slowly reconnect with my body and mind.

Welcome to the Healing Mini Mile. I'm Carrie, your walking bestie, and today I want to share a little piece of my own healing story, just as a way of reminding you that no matter how heavy life can get, there is always a path forward, always a way back to yourself. And every small step you take is part of your healing. Sometimes we suffer in silence. Sometimes we keep everything tucked inside, not wanting to burden anyone or admit how heavy things feel. But choosing to care for yourself, like pressing play on this block, is one of the bravest, most compassionate things you can do. It's a way of saying, I'm worth helping. And you are. And I'm really, really glad you're here. So let's start by taking a slow breath in through your nose. And a soft exhale out through your mouth. Let your feet find their rhythm. Feel the air on your skin. Let your jaw unclench and your shoulders melt down. Let yourself settle into this moment. This step. Right here is enough. There was a time in my life when everything felt really heavy. My mind was foggy, my body was drained. Nothing sounded good or fun, not talking, not going out, not reading, not even thinking. So I stayed in bed a lot. Reality TV became like the background noise that carried me through my days and kept me from thinking too much. And it worked until it didn't. One day I remember lying there, staring at the wall, feeling nothing and everything all at once. And I had this thought. But I did have another thought. I can go outside. I need some fresh air. I can maybe walk to the end of my street and then I can come back. That was all I had in me. But at that time that was enough. So I put my shoes on and I went outside. It wasn't impressive, it wasn't far. But when I got to the end of the street, I noticed that I felt just a tiny bit better. A little lighter, a little more hopeful that soon I'd feel even better and more like myself again. So the next day I did that short walk again and I kept doing it. Some days I stayed in bed, some days I walked a little farther, some days I cried while I was walking, and some days I just breathed. But over the next month things started shifting. The heaviness lifted layer by layer. My body felt a little stronger. And my mind felt a little clearer. My energy was coming back and something beautiful happened. I started wanting things again. Wanting to talk to someone I loved, wanting to go out to eat or read a book, just wanting to engage in my own life again. Walking didn't save me, but it brought me back to myself. It reminded me that my body is capable, my mind is resilient, my heart knows how to rise. And healing doesn't require perfection. Just one small step repeated with compassion. And now, because of everything I walked through myself, everything I slowly came back from, I want to share this with anyone who might be in that same place that I was. If you've ever felt stuck or exhausted or disconnected from your own life, I want you to know this from the deepest, most honest part of me. You will get better. You will feel better. Even if it happens slowly, even if it happens in baby steps, even if some days feel lighter and some days feel heavy again. Movement is medicine, no matter how big or how small. A short walk, a few minutes of fresh air, a gentle step towards yourself. These tiny choices add up. These small moments matter. And you deserve to feel the difference they create within you. I want to share something else that helped me during that dark time. Something that worked alongside the walking and strengthened me in a completely different way. And that's affirmations. When everything felt heavy and foggy, my mind became a place where the same painful thoughts played on repeat. And at first, saying affirmations felt really weird, almost impossible to do. I didn't believe most of the words I said, I didn't feel strong or hopeful or grounded. But somehow I knew that my thoughts weren't helping me heal, and I needed something gentler to reach for. And what I learned is that affirmations aren't about pretending everything is perfect. They're about giving your mind a new pathway, a new possibility. Even if you don't fully believe the words yet, saying them out loud or even quietly in your heart begins to shift things. It interrupts the old patterns and softens the edges. It gives your brain a chance to build something steadier and kinder and much more hopeful. And that's what these words did for me. They helped me create just enough space inside myself to feel a little more like the person I knew I could return to. So as you walk here with me now, I want to share some of the affirmations that supported me the most. Repeat them quietly if you want, or simply let them just settle into your body. I am healing in ways I can feel and in ways I can't yet see. Every step brings me closer to myself. My body is growing stronger in beautiful ways. My mind is becoming calmer and clearer each day. I am returning to myself gently, steadily, and with so much grace. Hold these affirmations close for a moment. Notice how they make you feel, even if the shift is small. As that feeling settles in, let's begin to wrap up this walk together. Take one more deep breath in. And a long soft exhale out. Remember, healing doesn't always begin with a breakthrough. Sometimes it begins with a walk to the end of the street. Sometimes it begins with choosing to get out of bed. Sometimes it begins with this exact moment, this breath, this step, this walk. And if today's walk helped you feel even a small shift, a little more hope, a little more calm, a little more like yourself. I created something to support you on the days when you need a gentle reminder. It's called Steps to Healing. It's a calming 25-card affirmation deck designed to encourage your body, soften your mind, and help you move through each day. You can print the cards or keep them on your phone for easy encouragement anytime you need it. You can find them in the link in the show notes. I am so grateful to walk with you on this journey, and I'm so proud of you for choosing yourself in this gentle, powerful way today. And as always, thank you so much for joining me here on the Healing Mini Mile, and I'll see you on the path again soon.
