Welcome to the Healing Mini Mile. I'm Carrie, your walking bestie, and by the end of this episode, you're going to know how to reach your goals in a way that feels steady, doable, and grounded in real life. I want to talk about goals in a way that feels honest because so many of us have lived through the same cycle. Big goals, strong starts, Monday momentum, Tuesday determination, Wednesday getting a little shaky, Thursday feeling completely overwhelmed, and Friday wondering why everything feels so hard. I know this cycle well because I lived it for years. I created huge expectations. I tried to design a whole new lifestyle overnight. And every time I couldn't keep up with the pressure, I felt discouraged and quit. So today I want you to walk with me as we explore a gentler approach, one that helps our goals feel lighter, more realistic, and easier to stick with. This is our walk for clarity and for confidence, and especially for the small steps that turn into big wins over time. So let's get into it. Let's walk together. We're gonna start by warming up your body a bit. Take a slow breath in through your nose.

And a soft, easy exhale out of your mouth. Feel your feet steady underneath you. Let your shoulders soften. Let your jaw relax.

Let your steps fall into a natural pace. Nothing fancy, nothing complicated, just you settling into your body. As we move, let this walk be a reminder. You're already showing yourself what follow-through feels like. You pressed play. You showed up. You're here. This is the energy that grows into real change. Steady, grounded, and within your reach. Let's keep walking. Let's talk about goals in the most real way possible. Like I was telling you, for most of my life, I set goals that belonged to an unrealistic version of me. A version with endless energy, perfect habits, and a full tank of motivation every single day. She was amazing. She was aspirational, and she was also not me. At least not yet. I used to sit down with my planner, write out a huge schedule, color code it, highlight it, and feel so proud of myself. Look at this new life I'm creating. Look at this brand new version of me. Then Monday would come and I'd dive into it all at once with that motivation. I was excited. New meals, new workouts, new habits, new everything. The excitement carried me through the first couple of days. But by Wednesday, it all felt kind of heavy. And by Thursday, I was struggling. And you guessed it. By Friday, I wasn't following any of it. And every time I stepped away from the plan, I felt disappointed in myself. I told myself I should have tried harder. I should have kept up. I should have had more discipline. But here's what I understand now. Those goals didn't match the season of life I was in. They didn't match my energy. They didn't match my emotional bandwidth. And they definitely didn't match my real daily routine. I was asking myself to jump from zero to 100. From Netflix every night to I'm basically a marathon runner now. From quick dinners to perfect meal plans and a grocery cart full of produce that would go bad by Thursday. Seriously. Real life just never moved that quickly. My goals weren't the problem. The pace was. I remember the moment things shifted for me. It wasn't dramatic. It wasn't some new year, new me, wave of inspiration. It was a quiet, honest conversation with myself that I had after failing time and time again. What's one step I can actually do today? Not a step I admire or wish I had energy for or see myself doing in the future. A step I can realistically complete today. That's when things started to click. The pressure eased, the overwhelm softened. My goals felt a little closer instead of far away. Much more doable and sustainable in the long run. So let's keep walking and talk about something that makes this approach powerful. Your brain loves small wins. It's wired to repeat behaviors that feel rewarding, doable, and consistent. It responds to follow through, even tiny follow-through, by releasing chemicals that create a sense of satisfaction and momentum. So when you complete a small goal, a 10-minute walk, a nourishing breakfast, a glass of water, a quick stretch, your brain registers that as success. And success creates a desire to repeat the behavior. This is why huge goals feel overwhelming. They demand so much energy that your brain struggles to keep up. The leap is too big and the reward feels too far away. Small goals, though, they give our brain something to celebrate today, right now, this minute. As you walk, your brain is literally strengthening pathways tied to follow through. Every step reinforces the belief. I can do this, I keep my promises, I follow through in simple ways. This is also why flexibility matters. Your brain thrives on consistency, but consistency doesn't mean intensity. It means showing up in a way that fits your current energy. A shorter walk still counts. A simple dinner still counts. A tiny shift still counts. When your goals match your real life, your actual life, your brain relaxes, your habits feel easier, your confidence grows, and suddenly the bigger goals feel closer and more achievable. So let's bring this into your daily life with a few steps you can take with you after this walk. Steps that make goal setting feel calm, steady, and realistic. Choose one step you can repeat daily. Something tiny you can always complete. Instead of planning a full workout routine, choose a 10-minute walk after dinner. Creating that smaller, more doable habit builds trust faster with yourself than a huge plan that seems overwhelming and drains your energy. Celebrate the follow-through, not the size of the action. Your brain learns from consistency. So if you drink one extra glass of water today, acknowledge it. A small follow-through boosts your confidence more than waiting for the day when you do everything perfect. Build confidence with small wins. Each tiny success teaches your mind I can rely on myself. So going forward, add one healthy thing to your plate. Fruit, a veggie, a better snack. Those small tweaks to your daily routine create change faster than strict overhauls. And keep your goals flexible. Our lives they shift, and our goals can shift with it. Like if a 30-minute walk feels too long, shorten it and do 15. Showing up in a gentler way still builds trust. These four steps fit real life. They create confidence and they create momentum. And they also help you grow in a steady, grounded, realistic way. As we wind down this walk, I want to share a few affirmations that support steady growth. Affirmations give your mind a direction to lean towards. They create a simple rhythm of encouragement from the inside out. You can repeat them silently, out loud, or just listen and feel how your body receives each word. Here we go.

SPEAKER_00

I choose small steps that move me forward. I follow through on the things that matter to me. I grow a little more each time I show up for myself. I trust myself to build things slowly and steadily. I'm becoming the version of me who keeps going.

SPEAKER_01

Really take these words in and feel them in your body as we take a slow breath in.

SPEAKER_00

And an easy exhale out. You showed up for yourself today.

SPEAKER_01

You followed through. You created momentum. This is how goals grow. Through steady action, small choices, and gentle consistency. Every time you walk, your confidence grows. Every time you choose something simple, your belief in yourself strengthens. And every time you take a step like this and show up for yourself, you get closer and closer towards achieving your goals. You can do it. I believe in you. We've just spent this walk learning to move towards our goals in a way that fits our real life. Steady, realistic, and built on trust with ourselves. If you want more support every single day of the year, I highly recommend the 365 Daily Wellness Deck, and it's simple. Each card is dated and has one motivational quote, one cue for movement, and one for stillness. So every morning or night, you just pull the card for that day. One card, three small ways to take care of yourself. A thought to carry with you, a way to move your body, and a moment to slow down. That's it. You can keep the deck on your phone, your laptop, or print it out, whatever fits your life best. It's an easy way to stay motivated and connected to yourself in a fun way and without pressure. If you've been wanting a daily routine that feels simple and consistent, the link for the 365 Daily Wellness Deck is in the show notes for you. Be sure to follow the podcast so you never miss the new walk. And if this episode helped you, I'd love for you to share it with someone you know and maybe leave a five star review. It helps the podcast grow and it's appreciated more than you know. As always, thank you so much for joining me today here on the Healing Mini Mile, and I'll see you on the path again soon.
