Dr. Bob Oates

Dr Bob Oates is an Associate Director with Cambridge Consultants and a cyber security expert with over a decade of industrial experience.

He focusses predominantly on safety-critical, operational technologies and critical national infrastructure.

He has worked on a range of complex projects covering security for novel technology, AI assurance arguments, and post-quantum security.

As an employee of Rolls-Royce Dr Oates won the Sir Henry Royce award twice, once for leading the cybersecurity efforts for remotely operated ships, and once as part of the team behind a cryptographic framework for securing confidential data on remote compute resource for computational fluid dynamics. During his time at National Grid he predominantly focused on the impact of OT/IT convergence on threat modelling by demonstrating how controls in one domain could prevent propagation of threats into adjacent domains.

Dr. James Merrick

Dr. James Merrick, Geal Research.


James develops mathematical modelling solutions for a range of research and industrial problems, with a particular focus on decarbonisation policy and technologies. James works with universities, research institutes, startups, and established large companies in developing and deploying these solutions. James holds dual masters degrees from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a PhD from Stanford University, and has published papers in a range of engineering, economics and operations research journals.

Michael Freeman

Michael Freeman is the Head of Threat Intelligence at Armis and a seasoned cybersecurity leader with over two decades of experience building both offensive and defensive capabilities for US intelligence agencies. Following his government service, Michael spent five years at a Fortune 100 company, where he exposed critical blind spots in enterprise vulnerability management and asset visibility—insights that led him to found a company acquired by Armis in 2024.

At Armis, Michael has played a central role in the development of Armis Centrix for Early Warning, the company’s flagship cyber exposure management platform. He’s helped shape how organisations move from reactive security models to proactive defence by combining asset intelligence, real-world threat actor behaviour, and AI-driven prioritisation.
